But it’s not too late to take a look back at some of the best performances turned in by players who will be back for another go round this fall.
Here are some of the best performances by Topeka 2022s in the Centennial League last season:
Elijah Brooks Elijah Brooks 6'3" | CG Topeka West | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-4 forward, 2022, Topeka West:
Ultimately, the Chargers got to where they wanted to go – the 5A state championships – last year. But it was a bit of a disappointment that they weren’t able to enjoy Brooks’ dynamic play for parts of the season. The athletic guard/wing missed several games with injury, but when he was on the court he turned in some impressive games. Perhaps the best was a 28 point explosion against Hayden. Brooks hit 12-17 shots, including 3-4 from behind the arc.
Ty Henry Ty Henry 6'3" | SG Seaman | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-4 guard, 2022, Seaman:
Henry doesn’t have to score to assert his control over a game. He handles the ball, drives and dishes and is a long presence on defense. But occasionally the game calls for Henry to get buckets. Against Lansing last season, Henry dropped eight buckets and 6-8 from the line for 23 points.
Mateo Hyman Mateo Hyman 6'2" | CG Seaman | 2022 State KS , 5-foot-11 guard, 2022, Seaman (pictured):
The flashy Hyman does some of everything as part of the diverse Viking collection of perimeter players. He doesn’t always score a lot. But he recorded a very impressive night against the ultra-talented Topeka West Chargers. Hyman hit 9-16 shots from the field, including 4-10 from deep, to tally 22 points.
Zander Putthoff Zander Putthoff 6'4" | SG Topeka West | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-4 guard, 2022, Topeka West:
Putthoff dropped a bunch of 3’s in just about every game. Nothing out of the ordinary. But perhaps his best night came against Highland Park, when he hit seven 3-pointers to finish with 23 points.
Juan’Tario Roberts Juan’Tario Roberts 5'10" | CG Highland Park | 2022 State KS , 5-foot-10 guard, 2022, Highland Park:
Roberts is a bucket-getter if there ever was one. He has a knack for flying through traffic and getting to the goal for some acrobatic scores. Perhaps his finest night was when he hit 10 shots and finished with 23 points in a heartbreaking 52-50 loss to Junction City.
Casen Stallbaumer, 6-foot-3 forward, 2022, Seaman:
The football star doesn’t always need to score a lot for the Vikings. He’s bringing so much to the table in terms of athleticism, rebounding, defense and tenacity. But occasionally he steps up in the scoring department. Last season he shocked with four 3-pointers in a 16-point effort against Manhattan.
