It was unfortunate to see our former No. 1 prospect, Derik Queen, make the move to Montverde Academy, but our new top dog will be featured on this list and is more than equipped to carry on the torch as the top-rated prospect in our state.
Bryson Tucker Bryson Tucker 6'7" | CG IMG Academy | 2024 #15 Nation FL | Mount St. Joseph
Tucker takes over as the top prospect in the state for the 2024 class and to be honest, he’ll prove himself as one of the best prospects regardless of class this season. He’s enjoyed a meteoric rise nationally thanks to his efforts in bringing home a gold medal with Team USA, has grown three inches to stand 6-foot-6 and expanded his overall game extensively. Tucker plays with a maturity years beyond his age and will control the ball much more than he did as a freshman for the Gaels. He can score from all three levels, makes advanced reads as a passer and is a polished, fundamental player. A list of power 5 conference schools have already jumped on board with Tucker after getting eyes on him and he can very well be head coach Pat Clatchey’s next prospect to walk across the stage and shake NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s hand down the road.
Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA | St. Frances
You won’t find many tougher guards than Davis. I love when I can walk into a gym on any given night and know what I’m going to get out of certain prospects. With Davis, it doesn’t matter if he’s scoring or not, I know that he’ll play at a 100 percent effort and do whatever it takes to put his team in a winning position. As a scorer though, he’s a capable shot-maker from three on catches in the corner. He’s starting to shoot his mid-range jumpers off the bounce with better pace and is a fearless driver when attacking the basket. He’s one of the better on-ball defenders at his position and never allows his matchup to bring the ball up the floor without immense pressure. The 5-foot-11 guard played a vital role off the bench last season for the Panthers and will once again be a major piece to their success in 2021-22.
Andrew Dixon Andrew Dixon 6'1" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2024 State MD | Mount Carmel
Dixon put together a productive freshman season as a starter next to 2022 Deon Perry Deon Perry 5'8" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2022 State MD in the backcourt. The 5-foot-11 guard is a pesky defender with active hands who embraces physicality when matched up against bigger players. Offensively, he’s at his best playing in space where he can utilized his quickness with the ball to get his defender off balance and find his way to the paint. From there he does a nice job of reading the rotating defense and either finishing with soft touch floaters, locating open shooters around the perimeter or delivering no-look dimes to bigs in the dunker’s spot.
Luke Bamgboye | Mount Carmel
Bamgboye is a new face to the area by way of London. He was initially supposed to attend St. Frances, but made the switch to Mount Carmel to help the Cougars add even more depth in their rotation. Once the season gets into swing, I think Bamgboye will rise into the starting center role for head coach Trevor Quinn thanks do his dominant rim protecting skills and ability to control the glass. The 6-foot-8 big also has a quick first jump that is seen on catches and rolls to the rim following ball screens that allows him to flush dunks with regularity. Bamgboye will be a high-energy center who knows how to thrive in his role and should be a perfect pairing in actions with Deon Perry Deon Perry 5'8" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2022 State MD .
RJ Newton RJ Newton 6'4" | SF Archbishop Spalding | 2024 MD | Archbishop Spalding
Newton is a 6-foot-5 forward who showed some nice qualities with Spalding in the DMV Live session back in June. He’ll play more of a minimized role given the amount of seniors in this rotation, but he’ll be counted on for his versatility as a defender, his ability to knock down open shots and do the little things that help production off the bench for the Cavs.
