With 20 teams on three courts including 18 high school teams and two showcase teams, there was plenty of talent across the board and tons of coaches tuned in and in person there to recruit the talent.
Here’s a look at part two of some of the standouts in the 2023 class at session three.
If you’re interested in watching the replays, you can see the entire event on the CBG Live Network.
Gabriel Jones | 6’3” WG | Colonial Forge
It was my first time getting to see Jones who plays on a senior ladened Forge team, and he has a real chance to be very good moving forward with continued development. He has a great frame and is a natural athlete who thrives in transition, he brings it on both ends of the floor and he has good ball skills and create shots from multiple levels off the bounce.
Aaron Brown | 6’2” WG | Carmel School
Brown continues to put himself on the map this fall as he continues to improve his game and has been very productive in all of the Fall Series. He’s a strong and competitive wing who can get downhill and finish through traffic, he can stick it from deep and score it in the midrange and he brings it on both ends of the floor.
Marvin Brimmage | 6’3” WG | Woodrow Wilson
There may not be a 2023 prospect in the DMV that’s more under the radar than Brimmage, who was a great second option to Buchanan as he played off the ball well and showed he can score it in bunches. The 6’3” wing moves well off the ball and can stick it from deep on catch-and-shoots and on the move, he can get downhill and find contact and either get to the line or finish at the rim and he was very productive averaging 14.5 points per game.
Justin Bass Justin Bass 5'11" | PG Kecoughtan | 2023 State VA | 6’0” PG | Kecoughtan
Bass was one of four Warriors that averaged double figures through session 3, and he was dynamic in doing so showing that he can score it from multiple levels and play on and off the ball. He shot the ball well from deep making 6 threes over two games, he showed good pace and explosion off the bounce and he averaged 15 points per game over the day.
Jadon Pace Jadon Pace 6'4" | SF Kecoughtan | 2023 State VA | 6’5” WF | Kecoughtan
The fourth Warrior to score in double figures was Pace, who averaged 10 points per game including a 14 point game where he made four threes. The 6’5” wing has terrific length and does a good job getting deflections defensively, he has deep range and a quick release and he’s a confident and consistent shooter from deep.
DJ Holloway | 6’0” CG | Hayfield
Holloway is a breakout player here in the Fall Series as he’s been very active and productive in the two sessions that Hayfield played in, and he had a 19 point game in a win over a very talented Bird team. He’s a compact and explosive guard who can get downhill and play above the rim, he can make shots in bunches from multiple levels and he brings it on both ends of the floor.
Greg Jones Greg Jones 6'5" | SF Hayfield | 2023 State #258 Nation VA | 6’6” WF | Hayfield
Jones continues to emerge as one of the top prospects in the 2023 class in VA, as his blend of size, athleticism and skill set at his position is not something you find every day. At 6’6” Jones can play on the basketball where he handles it well and makes very good decisions, he can guard multiple positions and moves his feet well and he can play above the rim on both ends of the floor.
Sam Brannen | 6’0” PG | King’s Fork
Brannen is a big addition to this King’s Fork group as he gives them a solid floor general who handles it well, makes good decisions and can score it in different ways. He’s highly cerebral with the ball in his hands and is very good in pick-and-roll situations, he can stick it from deep and has a good pull-up game and he has great instincts on the defensive end too.
