Continue ReadingThe CBG Fall Series returned this past Sunday, October 10 for session two at U-Turn in Richmond and the atmosphere and competition level was fantastic. With 12 teams on two courts including 10 high school teams, two showcase teams, there was plenty of talent across the board and tons of coaches tuned in and in person there to recruit the talent.
Here’s a look at some of the standouts in the 2024 class at session two. There will be one more session as well on October 24 at U-Turn.
If you’re interested in watching the replays, you can see the entire event on the CBG Live Network.
Kris Tiller | 6’0” PG | Benedictine
Tiller is a player I had heard about going into the Fall Series but it was my first time seeing him live, and the young lead guard had a breakout performance and proved he’s one of the top young guards in the Richmond area. The Cadets played in a couple of tough matchups against John Marshall and Peninsula Catholic, both with very good guards, and Tiller didn’t back down. He showed good poise leading his team, he’s shifty and crafty off the bounce with excellent body control and he makes good reads and the right plays with the ball in his hands.
Isaiah Vick | 6’4” WF | Patriot
Vick is a young prospect to keep an eye on in the Northern VA area as he has great physical and athletic tools with a solid skillset that should continue to get better with time. He has a great frame with good length and is a natural and explosive athlete, he can knock it down from deep and attack in straight lines and he has a lot of potential on the defensive end moving forward.
Damon Thompson Damon Thompson 6'0" | PG John Marshall | 2024 State VA | 6’1” PG | John Marshall
Thompson is one of the most talented young guards in the entire state, and he showed his elite skillset for a guard his age at session two of the Fall Series. The 6’1” guard is a polished scorer that can knock it down from deep off the catch or get to spots where he can create space and score it from all over the floor, he has great feel and instincts and he does something many young guards can’t do which is play at his own pace.
Kennard Wyche | 5’8” PG | Varina
Wyche had a good showing in the first session of the Fall Series, and he brought much of the same to session two as he ran the show and set the tone on both ends of the floor for the Blue Devils. While he isn’t the biggest guard Wyche is a skilled shot maker from deep, he’s crafty off the bounce and can make plays for others and he hounds ball handlers throughout the game and makes plays defensively.
Josiah Rickards Josiah Rickards 6'3" | CG Catholic | 2024 State VA | 6’3” CG | CBG Elite 2 (Catholic)
Rickards continues to show that he’s one of the best 2024s in the 757 with another good showing in session 2 of the Fall Series, and the more you watch him the more you tend to like him. At 6’3” he has good length and is a fluid athlete, he’s shown his ability to make shots from deep and in the midrange on the move and he continues to show that he can put it on the deck and create for himself and others with good feel and craft off the bounce.
Steven Solano | 6’9” C | CBG Elite 2 (Catholic)
Solano made his CBG debut and honestly his debut in VA after the young big transferred to Catholic from Christ the King in NYC, and he showed why he already holds a few high major offers and picked up an offer from Hampton with his play. In a setting where bigs don’t always get the touches they want, Solano still impressed with his high motor, defensive intensity and his explosive athleticism as well. At his size he’s very mobile and runs the floor hard, he’s an elite shot blocker that gets off his feet quickly and has good timing and he can finish at the rim and has good touch out to 18 feet as well.
