Continue ReadingThe CBG Fall Series was off this weekend in Richmond, so we decided to look back at some of the sessions before and make all session teams. With the amount of talent in the event over the past few weekends, it can be considered one of the top fall events in the state, and the prospects in the All Series Teams will back that up.
Here’s a look at six players we thought deserved the recognition of first team in session one of the event on 10/3.
If you’re interested in watching games from session one, the playback in available here.
MVP: Isaiah Coleman Isaiah Coleman 6'5" | SF Word of God | 2023 State #59 Nation NC | 6’5” WF | National Christian 2023
Coleman made a name for himself on the CBG Platform last year before he blew up in the summer during the live periods, and he used session one of the Fall Series to solidify himself as a top prospect in the nation with his versatility and athleticism at his size. The 6’5” wing did a little bit of everything, especially on the offensive end where he showed he’s a big time finisher at the rim, he can create and make shots from multiple levels and is a true Swiss-army knife with the ball in his hands. He led National Christian to a 2-0 record while leading the in scoring throughout the event.
Tyler Nickel Tyler Nickel 6'8" | SF East Rockingham | 2022 State #85 Nation VA | 6’7” WF | CBG Elite 2 2022
The UNC commit came down and played for CBG Elite where he showed why he’s a blue blood prospect as he got effortless buckets and competed with the best of them throughout the event. Nickel’s known for his ability to make shots from multiple levels and his athletic finishing ability, but watching the way he brought a competitive chip to a showcase team and got after it on both ends shows why he’s so lethal and likely to compete for a spot when he steps foot on campus at UNC. The East Rockingham hooper was one of the top scorers in the event without being overly selfish.
Ant Davis | 6’4” WF | Miller School 2022
Davis is one of the most athletic players in the state and plays with a terrific motor, and he showed that for Miller in session one as he was active in their press and scored in double figures both games, averaging 15 points per game. A strong wing who can fly all over the floor, Davis brought energy on both ends as he made plays on the defensive end, finished well at the rim and through contact and was extremely efficient in both of his games. He’s one of the top available prospects in VA and looked like one of the best players in an event loaded with talent.
Alphonzo Billups Alphonzo Billups 6'7" | SF Varina | 2022 State #154 Nation VA | 6’7” WF | Varina 2022
The VCU commit is a strong contender for POY in VA this year, and if he plays the way he did in session one during the regular season he’ll be right up there in the conversation. The 6’7” wing not only has good length and athleticism at the wing position, he’s also very versatile as he can score it from multiple levels, make plays for others on his team and has good vision and he’s an excellent rebounder too. He looks much more aggressive to score the basketball and was one of the top scorers at the event.
Jayden Brewer | 6’6” WF | Combine PG 2022
Brewer came into the post grad division and looked like one of the best prospects in attendance, as the 6’6” wing possesses the size, athleticism and scoring ability to be special at the next level. A long and wiry wing, Brewer is able to play on the ball and get to spots to convert from multiple levels and through contact, he can play off the ball where they can run sets to get him at the rim and open to make shots from deep and he still has tons of room to get better. He was the best prospect on a Combine team that absolutely dominated the post grad division.
Jacob Cooper Jacob Cooper 5'9" | PG Green Run | 2021 State VA | 5’8” PG | Combine PG 2022
While Brewer may be the best prospect on the team, Cooper is the straw that stirs the drink for Combine as the former Green Run star continues to prove doubters wrong with his ability to run a team and effortlessly get whatever he wants on the floor. He’s a smooth guard who can get wherever he wants on the floor, he can create for himself and others off the bounce and he’s a very talented and efficient scorer that can score it from anywhere on the floor. He’s a competitor and winner who will continue to get doubted because of his size but will outplay anyone you put in front of him no matter their size.
Greg Jones Greg Jones 6'5" | SF Hayfield | 2023 State #258 Nation VA | 6’5” WF | Hayfield 2023
Jones is a guy we’ve had on our radar at Prep Hoops for a while, and he proved why we have him ranked as a top 15 prospect in the 2023 class as the wing demonstrated a lot of intangibles that translate well to the next level. He has great size on the wing and is a big time athlete who can play above the rim, he showed great decision making at his position and made the right play regularly and he showed he can score it when he needs to in a number of different ways. He led Hayfield in scoring playing against some very good competition, and made it very clear he is a top prospect in the class, despite being younger than many 2023 prospects on our list.
