With 18 teams on three courts including 12 high school teams, 3 post grad teams and 3 showcase teams, there was plenty of talent across the board and tons of coaches tuned in and in person there to recruit the talent.
Here’s a look at part three of the many 2023 standouts at session one. There will be two more sessions as well on October 10 and October 24 at U-Turn.
If you’re interested in watching the replays, you can see the entire event on the CBG Live Network.
John St. Germain John St. Germain 6'2" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State VA | 6’1” PG | CBG Elite 2 (STAB)
St. Germain is known as a floor general with his ability to control the game and play at his own tempo, and even on a team with players that he doesn’t play with regularly he displayed that type of ability on Sunday. The 6’1” lead guard is very strong and played through contact well, he showed great instincts on both ends of the floor and he had a nice balance of making shots and distributing to others with his playmaking ability.
Evan Ramsey Evan Ramsey 7'0" | C Abingdon | 2023 State VA | 7’0” C | CBG Elite 2 (Abingdon)
Showcase teams aren’t always kind to big men and there were long stretches where Ramsey didn’t touch the basketball, but that didn’t stop him from making an impact with his size and he took advantage of the opportunities he got. Even without touching the ball very much he played with a good motor and defended and rebounded well, he showed that he can score it in the paint where he isn’t afraid to get physical and he showed touch knocking down a three-pointer too.
Yuri Manns Yuri Manns 6'3" | CG LC Bird | 2023 State VA | 6’3” CG | CBG Elite 1 (LC Bird)
Manns continues to show improvement and should have a breakout season for a Bird team that could compete for a state championship. The 6’3” combo guard made a big statement early showing his improved strength and athleticism with a big one handed throw down in transition, he looked much more confident playing on the ball and handling pressure and making plays for others and he shot the ball well throughout the day.
Davin Cosby | 6’4” WG | CBG Elite 1 (Benedictine)
Cosby is one of the hottest prospects in the RVA area since last summer and the 6’4” off guard showed his great shot making ability and improvement in being able to put it on the deck and get to spots and create his own shot. He’s a very confident shooter that thinks every shot he takes will go in, he displayed very deep range off the catch and he showed he can get to spots and elevate over defenders to make shots too.
Jaedon Harris | 5’11” PG | CBG Elite 2 (John Paul the Great)
Harris was a late addition to the CBG Elite squads but he didn’t take long to make an impact as he scored on three straight possessions after checking in to the game and showed his smooth playmaking ability throughout the day. A crafty guard with good shift off the bounce, Harris was able to get to spots and make shots at different levels, he sat down and guarded the ball well and he consistently made the right play with the ball in his hands, something that isn’t always common on a showcase team.
Luke Smith Luke Smith 6'9" | C Collegiate | 2023 State VA | 6’8” PF | CBG Elite 1 (Collegiate)
Smith showed why he is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2023 class in Richmond, as he showed good versatility for his size and was efficient in the opportunities he got. The 6’8” big man showed his inside-out game as he scored it well in the post, stepped out and made plays on the perimeter and was very fluid in multiple aspects of his game.
