With 18 teams on three courts including 12 high school teams, 3 post grad teams and 3 showcase teams, there was plenty of talent across the board and tons of coaches tuned in and in person there to recruit the talent.
Here’s a look at part two of the many 2022 standouts at session one. There will be two more sessions as well on October 10 and October 24 at U-Turn.
If you’re interested in watching the replays, you can see the entire event on the CBG Live Network.
Ashton Pratt Ashton Pratt 6'0" | CG Hayfield | 2022 State VA | 6’0” CG | Hayfield
Pratt is the x-factor for Hayfield that played extremely well this weekend with a win over a good Manor team and a close loss to Menchville in the final game of the day. The senior leader that does a little bit of everything for this group, Pratt brings good poise as someone who can play on or off the basketball, he can make shots from different spots on the floor and he has great instincts on the defensive end.
Rob Lawson Rob Lawson 5'9" | PG National Christian | 2022 State MD | 5’11” PG | National Christian
Lawson was the straw that stirred the drink for National Christian that went 2-0 this weekend with wins over very good Miller School and Varina teams. The 5’11” point guard is the definition of a floor general as he never gets sped up and runs the show getting everyone in the right positions to make plays, he’s very crafty and dynamic off the bounce and can get anywhere he wants on the floor, he can score it off the bounce from multiple levels and knows how to get to the free throw line for easy points when he needs to.
Tekao Carpenter Tekao Carpenter 6'2" | CG National Christian | 2021 State MD | 6’2” WG | National Christian
Carpenter is one of the more underrated prospects in the DMV, and he had a stellar day as he picked his spots and made shots while also bringing it on both ends of the floor. With good size and length Carpenter is able to get deflections on the defensive end, he can handle it or play off the ball on the offensive end and he can score it both from deep and off the bounce in the midrange and at the rim.
Brandon Hilliard | 6’3” WG | National Christian
Hilliard is a new addition and very underrated player for this talented National Christian team coaches need to get an eye on as he can do a little bit of everything at the two guard position. The smooth lefty is a talented shot maker that can fill it up from deep, he can defend the other team’s best player and he’s one of those players that just always is around the ball and makes plays on both ends.
Alphonzo Billups Alphonzo Billups 6'7" | SF Varina | 2022 State #154 Nation VA | 6’7” WF | Varina
The VCU commit and CBG legend that has played in every CBG event so far not only played well in this event but he really stepped it up against elite competition in their close loss to National Christian. He showed all the things that make him such an impressive prospect as he was steady handling the rock and making plays for others, he finished at the rim well using his length and athleticism and he continues to show improvement in his ability to shoot the basketball.
Christian Carden Christian Carden 6'4" | PF Varina | 2022 State VA | 6’5” F | Varina
Carden is the x-factor for this Varina team that was missing a few of their key players that also play football, and he looked good with his mismatch ability and the way he can do a little bit of everything to help his team. He’s a playmaker at his size that can see over the defense and makes good passes to teammates on the money, he can make shots from multiple levels and he can guard multiple positions too.
Chris Brown Chris Brown 6'5" | SG Peninsula Catholic | 2022 State VA | 6’3” WG | Peninsula Catholic
PC didn’t play their best this weekend but Brown, who is starting to see scholarship level programs come in for him recently, showed that two way impact that makes him very intriguing moving forward. He’s a natural athlete that can play on or off the basketball, he made shots from deep and in the midrange with efficiency and he did a good job defensively staying in front and using his athleticism to make plays.
