Braeden Carrington Braeden Carrington 6'4" | SG Park Center | 2022 State #141 Nation MN of Park Center. Carrington is playing in a way that makes me think that 150/160 national ranking should be closer to top 125. And he’s playing in a way that might have people thinking Mr. Basketball. He led the Pirates over Eastview and Minneapolis South and the margins of victory were massive. Carrington had 18 points and four assists in the second game hitting 6 of 11 shots including two threes. Braeden is playing with a confidence and comfort that few players ever reach at the high school level.
Brady Helgren Brady Helgren 6'8" | C Edina | 2022 State MN of Edina. Augustana should be investigated for theft because getting a 6’9 skilled player like this at the D2 level was unheard of a couple years ago. Watching Helgren face up and attack smaller bigs off the bounce and finish with such comfort today had me thinking of how high his ceiling is for the future. What I loved was two or three of the physical moves he finished today seeking and taking contact, and then finishing through it. I’ve said Rocky Kreuser before as a comparison and I think I’m sticking to it. Lots of Rocky in what Brady does.
Jack Janicki Jack Janicki 6'4" | SG White Bear Lake | 2023 State #277 Nation MN of White Bear Lake. Jack continues to be the difference maker down the stretch in 2021. We saw it last winter, we saw it a number of times this summer, and we saw it again today. White Bear Lake faced Edina in the 8am game and the teams went back and forth trading buckets in the final minutes. Jack created two shots for others that were sunk and then he hit the game winner at the buzzer beating a guy off the dribble and lifting into the clutch touch.
Logan Kinsey Logan Kinsey 6'6" | PF Spring Lake Park | 2022 State MN of Spring Lake Park. I need a tag line attached to everything I write about Logan because I say it every time “Logan is a complete steal”. Kinsey has the right size, he is athletic, and the skill progresses with every time I see him play. Today Logan was playing a lot of lead guard and he handled that position very well. Passed the ball in a way that I didn’t know he could plus Logan did his usual finishing, rebounding, and using his length to defensively harass.
Elvis Nnaji Elvis Nnaji 6'8" | C Hopkins | 2022 State #215 Nation MN of Hopkins. Elvis Nnaji Elvis Nnaji 6'8" | C Hopkins | 2022 State #215 Nation MN is one of the best uncommitted bigs in the nation. He’s out here blocking and denying shots every other possession, he’s bouncing around the gym with energy totalling double doubles, and he’s running the floor like an NFL tight end. Jumping passing lanes and bouncing to finish. If you need a five in college basketball call this young man.
Isaac Nyakundi Isaac Nyakundi 6'9" | C MacDuffie | 2024 State NLG of Duluth East. This big man is rapidly getting better. This is a scholarship big and right now he’s producing on effort and physical abilities alone. The skills are getting better as I really liked the way he established position and turned into his man physically while on balance. Today we saw Isaac get to some blocks, he jumped a passing lane to go get a dunk, and activity impressed at 6’8. What really caught my attention was the way he passed the basketball. Now, big man recruiting is in a total state of flux so trying to predict what level he will land at is impossible. But this is very likely to be a scholarship big.
Lincoln Palbicki Lincoln Palbicki 6'10" | C Maple Grove | 2023 State MN of Maple Grove. Lincoln has reshaped his body. He’s always had good footwork but now the feet are moving a bit quicker. Lincoln has always had great hands but now he’s touching in shots ahead of the defender’s step. Lincoln has always been a very smart player but now after the screen he’s catching and finishing with a quick spin or aggressive one hander on the move. Love the progress that he has made.
Cody Pennebaker Cody Pennebaker 6'5" | SF Park Center | 2022 State MN of Park Center. Cody is one guy that I think is ready for a winter breakout season. Based on the success of his previous winter, the growth I’ve seen from him skill wise, and the explosive athleticism, this 6’5 wing is ready for a breakout campaign. I would advise schools that need wings to keep an eye on him. His jumper has taken a step forward and his athletic ability/agility gives him so much two-way potential to work with at the next level.
Caleb Siwek Caleb Siwek 6'1" | SG Rosemount | 2022 State MN of Rosemount. I love his determination. There is a different fight to him, a different competitive spirit. He’s the type that I think will be successful just about anywhere he goes because his fight will allow him to be a factor. Today he attacked Duluth East for the majority of his 24 points (on 9 of 13 shooting). The battle to get to the corner stood out. And in the second half he had a handful of key assists down the stretch plus grabbed eight boards in half two. Just the boards alone out-working others to the ball was something I took away as something separating him.
