There were about 80 players from five states (NM/CA/CO/NV/AZ) who played three games each with 10 teams of 7-9 players on each team.
I thought there was good depth at every age group and adequate competition on every court.
Let’s take a look at every age group’s 1st team.
Here is the 2022 1st team:
Trey Phillips Trey Phillips 6'6" | PF Brophy College Prep | 2022 State AZ Brophy Prep (Pictured)
A super long defensive stud kind of did what he wanted at this camp. He takes super long strides in the lane and scores it around or many times above defenders. He had many jaw dropping dunks on the break and he seems to glide to the cup. He rebounds out of his area and will block shots. He defends every position on the court and has incredible energy. He made a few 3’s on the day and is a star in transition.
Rufus Rusholme Cobb Rufus Rusholme Cobb 6'6" | SF Coconino | 2022 State AZ Coconino
A newcomer by the way of New Zealand. He plays the role of point forward with a nice handle for size and has a stronger build/frame. His HS coach told me he will play a lot of PG for them. He has good bounce, he can take it off the glass and go coast to coast for a layup, finger roll or use the euro. He has a good motor to rebound and block shots. He is a smart passer and he can hit a 3 off the dribble.
Syris Williams Syris Williams 6'0" | CG Pueblo Central | 2022 State CO Pueblo-Central/CO
A thicker combo guard loves getting downhill and scoring it through contact. He utilizes the runner better then anyone at the camp and he has real strength to seemingly bounce off of defenders. He makes good reads to his teammates and he is a physical defender. He should have a big senior season in Colorado.
Evan Clayton Evan Clayton 6'4" | SG Arcadia | 2022 State AZ Arcadia
A quickly improving guard has become more athletic in the last year. He can dunk it in traffic and he can pull-up from mid-range with high elevation. He can slash to the cup and finish with his left or right. He hits 3’s, plays hard on defense and he should break out for the Titans.
Eddie Moo-Young Eddie Moo-Young 6'4" | SF Faith Lutheran | 2022 State NV Faith Lutheran/NV
A strong forward who loves getting downhill. He has a decent stroke from the perimeter and he can catch and shoot it from the 3pt line. He shows good body control in the lane and he will score it through contact plus he rebounds out of area.
Peyton Smith Peyton Smith 6'1" | SF Gila Ridge | 2022 State AZ Gila Ridge
A crafty old school type of scorer is improving his game. He can score it from the perimeter with fall aways from mid to the 3 plus catch and shoot it. He has a sneaky burst to get to the rim and score it. He has a high IQ and is slowly turning into a point forward type.
Andrew Sheppard Andrew Sheppard 6'0" | PG Monument Valley | 2022 State AZ Monument Valley
A super smart rare pure point guard plays the game from the neck up. He has real court vision and sees plays developing quickly. He can hesitate and then go by his defenders to score or he is usually dropping off a dime.
