Continue ReadingCoach Bocachica’s young core from a few years ago has matured. He’s got a couple guards who can create and a diverse assortment of wings across his junior and senior classes, who all play both ways with the toughness he’s instilled in them. They have as much of a shot as anyone else to win the Philly Catholic League chip this season.
Nasir Griffin Nasir Griffin 6'6" | SF West Catholic | 2022 State PA | 6’7 F 2022
Nas has wing/forward skills but lines up at the five for West Catholic because of how athletically gifted he is. He’s most comfortable facing up and can pass from the mid post. But the more he leans into an inside-out approach to his offense, the better his game and the team get.
Kareem Watson Kareem Watson 6'5" | SF West Catholic | 2022 State PA | 6’6 W 2022
One of their senior leaders, Reem sets the example with how he plays without the ball. He can hit threes from the college line by spotting up or coming off screens.
Kaseem Watson Kaseem Watson 6'6" | CG West Catholic | 2022 State PA | 6’6 W 2022
Seem can knock down threes and has some juice off the dribble. He’s able to make contested shots with simple iso moves. Both of the Watson twins are thin, yet wiry strong.
Shemar Wilbanks-Acqui Shemar Wilbanks-Acqui 6'0" | CG West Catholic | 2023 State PA | 6’3 G 2023
Shemar just arrived (transferred from Sankofa) and already established himself as an offensive initiator. His ability to make pull up threes adds a unique element to the Burrs attack.
Marcus Branker Jr | 6’5 W 2023
MJ has a blue collar game. He plays well without the ball, rebounds, and is a physical defender. Offensively, he’s a strong finisher around the rim.
Adam “Budd” Clark Adam “Budd” Clark 5'9" | PG West Catholic | 2023 State PA | 5’9 G 2023
Even with all the big, athletic wings on the roster, Budd probably embodies toughness the most. Him being impossible to keep out of the paint and being a true point guard are only icing on the cake compared to the physicality which he plays with.
Zion Stanford Zion Stanford 6'5" | SF West Catholic | 2023 State PA | 6’5 W 2023
With his body type and explosiveness, Z can be physically imposing, especially when he gets downhill. His improving handle is helping him create more for himself off the bounce.
Isaac Cole | 6’5 W 2025
Isaac more than likely won’t get many minutes this season on varsity, but he battles against the upperclassmen. He competes for rebounds and is disruptive on defense. Further, he was unafraid to take open looks for three. The freshman is one to keep an eye on in a year or two.
