Recognizing that many of our ranked players could play several different positions (and some of the top players defy a position category), this is by no means a grouping of the best players into teams.
But just for fun, we made teams of the players based off their rankings.
The first team was: PG Mozae Downing-Rivers Mozae Downing-Rivers 6'3" | PG Free State | 2022 State KS , CG Fontaine Williams Fontaine Williams 6'1" | CG Derby | 2022 State KS , SG Jordan Brown Jordan Brown 6'2" | SG St Francis | 2022 State GA , SF Mark Mitchell Mark Mitchell 6'7" | SF Sunrise | 2022 State #8 Nation KS , PF Trey Moala Trey Moala 6'7" | PF Paola | 2022 State KS , and C Jace Linenberger Jace Linenberger 6'7" | C Hays | 2022 State KS .
The second team was: PG Max Alexander Max Alexander 6'0" | PG Next Level Prep | 2022 KS , CG Christian Bowen-Webb Christian Bowen-Webb 6'2" | CG Bishop Miege | 2022 State KS , SG Seth Madron Seth Madron 6'2" | SG Mcpherson | 2022 State KS , SF Gradey Dick Gradey Dick 6'7" | SF Sunrise Christian (KS) | 2022 State #21 Nation KS , PF Henry Thengvall Henry Thengvall 6'5" | PF Kapaun Mt. Carmel | 2022 State KS , and C Keaton Williams Keaton Williams 6'8" | C Wichita Southeast | 2022 State KS .
Here’s the 2022 Rankings Third Team, the #3 player at each of our six positional classifications (listed by position, name, state ranking, size and high school):
Third Team:
Point Guard: Cooper Jackson Cooper Jackson 6'0" | PG Free State | 2022 State KS , #10, 6-foot, Free State:
The defensive-minded and pass-first point guard will make all his talented teammates at Free State happy this year. Jackson has a ton of experience running the show and will be a high-quality leader for a high school team that returns as much talent as any school. Jackson is a high-energy and athletic guard who creates a lot of havoc at the defensive end.
Combo Guard: Zaid Dajani Zaid Dajani 6'4" | CG Olathe Northwest | 2022 State KS , #13, 6-foot-4, Olathe Northwest HS:
Although he received honorable mention in 6A as a junior, Dajani’s talents still went somewhat unappreciated. But after averaging 18 points at Olathe Northwest, he blew up this summer showing brilliant touch from deep and impressive athleticism. He can handle the ball and distribute, defend and rebound, making him one of the stars of the summer circuit.
Shooting Guard: Kernan Bundy Kernan Bundy 6'3" | SG Blue Valley North | 2022 State KS , #21, 6-foot-3, Blue Valley North HS:
On the deep Blue Valley collection of stars, Bundy’s full contribution might have been somewhat overlooked. But he was integral to the championship as the team’s second leading scorer. He averaged 13 points per game, shot .375 from deep, and contributed better than one steal per outing. He’s appreciated for his defense as much as anything.
Small Forward: Aidan Shaw Aidan Shaw 6'7" | SF Blue Valley | 2022 State #40 Nation KS , #3, 6-foot-7, Blue Valley HS (pictured):
The small forward position is loaded in Kansas. The top three players in the state all fit that same positional category. Thus the third-best player in the state gets pushed to the third team. Shaw is the #35 rated player in the nation, telling you how good Mitchell and Dick are. An all-state pick in 6A the past two seasons, Shaw is poised for a huge senior campaign. He averaged 19.7 points and 3.7 blocks last year. Already a dominant player around the rim, he worked to expand his game this summer with MoKan. His game is catching up to his elite athleticism.
Power Forward: Landon Wagler Landon Wagler 6'8" | PF Shawne Mission Northwest | 2022 State KS , #43, 6-foot-5, Shawnee Mission Northwest HS:
A guy to watch next season, Wagler will lead a very talented high school team. He showed this summer for MoKan that he can do it all, inside and out. He plays hard and runs the floor, moving from the lane to the perimeter and back again, shooting it well and making plays. He can do some of everything and will be a rugged inside presence to support some top-notch guards.
Center: Fred Criqui Fred Criqui 6'7" | C St. Marys | 2022 State KS , #50, 6-foot-7, St. Marys HS:
Criqui is very good for his high school team. But he really impresses on the club circuit, a long and powerful presence in the lane. He can knock down shots out to the perimeter, and he’s really tough in the post. Criqui gets high marks for his ability to screen, roll off for entry passes, catch and score on the move and defend opposing bigs. His skills are a perfect match for the talented guards at St. Marys.
