This is my take on the top twenty players that should be on every college coach’s radar going into this season. Be on the lookout for the rest of my top player’s list and my coverage of all the athletes.
Jack Lawson Jack Lawson 6'5" | SG Southlake Carroll | 2024 State TX 2024 6’5 Southlake Carol High School
Jack is a highly-skilled forward who looks like he has the potential to become a stretch four if he continues to grow or become a leaner more wing-type player. He is a very aggressive player on both ends of the floor who fights for every rebound. In the post, he is patient and methodical with his fakes, he knows how to create space for himself even against other bigs. I was the most impressed with his fluidity and ability to put the ball on the floor. He showed range and an ability to knock down open shots when given time to set his feet. You can also tell he has had good coaching; he is great at finding weak spots in the defense and knowing when to cut to give his teammates another option.
Jordan Andres McBryde Jordan Andres McBryde 6'3" | SF SotoMayor | 2024 TX 2024 6’3 Harlan High School
Jordan is an athletic wing who is great at finishing in the lane. He possesses great length and ability to stay in front of ball handlers and driving opponents. He is a capable rim protector at the wing position. He is great at using his frame and keeping the ball away from defenders when attacking the rim. He is a good screener who knows how to utilize his frame and create space through solid screens. I would like to see him work on using his frame to seal his defender away from the basket when he rolls. There were instances where he could have opened quicker and been ready to receive an interior pass. McBryde has plenty of untapped potential and coaches should keep an eye on his growth this season. ‘
Bryson McGlothin Bryson McGlothin 6'7" | SF John Paul II | 2024 State TX 2024 6’4 Heath High School
Bryson is a player who really caught my eye during his time on the floor. He possesses great length with an ability to race up and down the field and compete on both ends. He is a very fluid athlete who looks to move with ease. He is a reliable finisher in transition and thrives as a rim running wing. He has an ability to knock down shots from the wings and the corners to space the floor and possesses the ability to put the ball on the floor and score in the lane. I would like to see continued development with his shot off the dribble, especially in the midrange where he could become an even deadlier weapon on offense. His ability to run and move his feet should be a good indicator that he has the potential to translate into a high-level defender as well.
Johnathan Moore Johnathan Moore 5'11" Newport | 2023 TX 5’11 Newport High School
Johnathan is an aggressive guard who thrives at putting pressure on the defense with his tenacity. He is an impressive slasher for his size, he is very successful at getting to the rim and drawing contact. I was impressed with his ability to control the tempo of the game. He does not get rushed into bad looks at any level, and has the patience and court vision to set up his teammates for easy looks. He is a true three level scorer, who is very comfortable at scoring in the midrange. When defenders began fearing his shot, he simply blew by them and got to his spots at the elbows.
Jackson Prince Jackson Prince 6'0" | SG Duncanville | 2023 State TX 2023 Guard 6’1 Duncanville
Jackson is a sniper from all three levels of the floor. He is very comfortable at getting to his spots in the midrange and beyond the arc. He is a deadly scorer who can fill it up at any point in the game. I was impressed with his overall handle and ability to beat players off the dribble. However, his ability to get free off the ball stood out. His consistent movement created open looks for himself and his teammates. You can tell he is an aware player who has paid attention during his time in the high-powered Duncanville offense. Prince is another example of a high-level player coming out of Coach Peavy’s system.
