Continue ReadingIt was an extremely busy weekend for basketball here in southeastern Pennsylvania. Area grassroots teams were in Manheim, PA for the Hoop Group Fall Jam Fest. High School squads from SEPA were at Friends Central for the City of Basketball Love Interstate Shootout. Meanwhile numerous elite prospects from the region were participating in the Philly vs. New York All-City Classic at Cristo Rey HS.
Below is a review of prospects who performed well this weekend at the various events taking place in the region.
Mo Abdullah Mo Abdullah 6'4" | SF Imhotep Charter | 2022 State PA – 6’4” / Senior / Imhotep Charter / NJ Scholars Elite / Wing: Abdullah’s versatile skill set was on full display at the Philly vs. New York All-City Classic. His ability to drain threes as well as slash to the basket for buckets produced 29 points. For his outstanding performance Abdullah was selected as the Class of 2022 game MVP. Because of his high-profile teammates at Imhotep, Abdullah may be one of the most underappreciated players in the Philly. Make no mistake, this prospect can ball, and he is a fantastic “get” for Rider.
Jackson Hicke Jackson Hicke 6'5" | SF Radnor | 2023 State PA – 6’4 / Junior / Radnor / SJ Hoops Elite / Wing: Hicke has proven time and again that he can get buckets off the dribble or via the spot up three ball. On Sunday at the City of Basketball Love Interstate Shootout, he displayed that he can also be very successful scoring the ball via the isolation game. With Radnor trailing Haddonfield (NJ) at half and Jackson having a hot hand, the Raptors put the ball in Hicke’s hands and told him to go to work. The plan worked — Hicke scored at all 3-levels, posted 25+ points in the second half and Radnor got the win.
Onyekachi Nzeh Onyekachi Nzeh 6'9" | PF George School | 2023 State PA – 6’9” / Junior / George School / Team Final EYBL / Power Forward: At the City of Basketball Love Interstate Shootout, “Kachi” continued to score at will and terrorize foes on the glass at both ends of the floor. An athletic and long prospect with a quick second jump, his ability to convert offensive rebounds into points is second to none. At the other end, “Kachi’s” physical attributes also make him a superior rim protector. In the George School’s two games at this event (both wins) “Kachi” averaged 20 points and 12.5 rebounds per contest. He has already received scholarship offers from Hofstra, Creighton, LaSalle, TCU, Bryant, Siena and New Mexico State. The frightening part is the Covid shortened 2020-21 season was just his second year of high school basketball.
Billy Rayer Billy Rayer 5'10" | PG Haverford Boys | 2024 State PA – 5’10” / Sophomore / Haverford School / East Coast Power-Danzig / Point Guard: A coach on the floor style point guard, Rayer helped push ECP-Danzig to a 3-1 record in the 16U division at the Hoop Group Fall Jam Fest. When he was not directing ECP’s half-court offense or distributing the rock to an open teammate, Rayer splashed home threes (12 total over 4 games) and applied tenacious on-ball pressure.
Bill Sackor Bill Sackor 6'0" | CG Souderton | 2024 State PA – 6’0” / Sophomore / Souderton / Philly Pride Aces / Combo Guard: Sackor was clutch during a weekend of highly competitive play at the Hoops Group Fall Jam Fest. The Aces went 3-1 but their average margin of victory was only 2.5 points. This athletic and smooth shooting combo guard played well throughout those tightly contested games, but his 23-point performance vs. Albany City Rocks really stood out. The Aces backcourt combo of Sackor and North Penn’s Norman Gee III are a duo we will be watching closely this fall.
Jacob Warren Jacob Warren 6'10" | PF Calvary Christian | 2023 State FL – 6’10” / Junior / Downingtown West / Philly Pride National UAA / Power Forward: Warren is still developing his skills and growing into his frame, but at the City of Basketball Love Interstate Shootout he showed real improvement. He appears to have developed good chemistry in the two-man game with D-West standout guard Dylan Blair Dylan Blair 5'10" | PG Downingtown West | 2023 State PA . Warren displayed an effective mid-range skills that has potential to become a serious threat in the pick-n-pop game. His shooting mechanics are textbook, and he flashed range out to the arc. If he can hit threes on a consistent basis, it would be game changer for his recruiting.
Carter Wamsley Carter Wamsley 6'7" | PF Eastern York | 2025 State PA – 6’5” / Freshman / Eastern York / York Ballers / Combo Guard: Wamsley was a beast on the blocks for the York Ballers this weekend as the team went 3-1 at the Hoop Group Fall Jam Fest. Additionally, Wamsley scored off the dribble with his pull up midrange jump shot and showed signs of a being a threat from deep (5-12 on threes). On the weekend he averaged 22 points and 13 boards per game while shooting 72% from the field. The upside on this freshman is very intriguing.
Ryan Williams Ryan Williams 6'3" | SG Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA – 6’0” / Sophomore / Malvern Prep / Philly Pride National UAA / Combo Guard: Williams was absolutely electric during the July circuit as he continued to turn heads this weekend with his filthy handles and ability to score at al 3-levels. Williams also owns a ridiculously quick first step which constantly puts defenders on their heels. That elite skill package enabled Williams to score 20 points and grab 4 rebounds in the Class of 2024 game at the Philly vs. New York All-City Classic.
Robert Wright III Robert Wright III 6'0" | PG Montverde Academy (FL) | 2024 State #35 Nation FL – 6’0” / Sophomore / Neumann-Goretti / Team Final EYBL / Combo Guard: Another standout performer from the 2024 game at the Philly vs. New York All-City Classic, Wright posted 18 points to go along with 6 boards and 6 dimes in that all-star game. As the stats show, this extremely athletic guard has a well-rounded game. From a scoring standpoint Wright stroked it from behind the arc and scored off the dribble. ASG format events tend to bring out a selfish style of play, but Wright went against that trend and was more than willing to distribute the rock with precision.
