The event took place at two different locations: St John Bosco High School and St Monica High School. The event featured some of the top HS teams in the SoCal area. I was able to attend both days, and here’s a quick look at some additional top standouts.
1. Brady Dunlap Brady Dunlap 6'7" | SF Harvard-Westlake | 2023 State #100 Nation CA-S – Harvard Westlake 2023
Dunlap helps make up what is an incredibly deep and talented Harvard Westlake team. He’s a knock down shooter. He’s got such good off ball movement and does a great job getting himself free for open three-point shots. With the ball in his hands, he does a good job using screens and he has a solid pull-up game. He can hit defenders with that one-two dribble pull-up. He can take the ball to the rim too.
2. Jalen Vazquez Jalen Vazquez 6'0" | PG Bishop Montgomery | 2022 CA-S – Bishop Montgomery 2022
Vazquez is the senior leader for the Knights and he excels in his role. He’s unselfish and he keeps the ball from stagnating offensively. He’s a real crafty ball handler who can handle defensive pressure and has a quick off the dribble game. He can turn on the jets and blow past his defender. Does a solid job finding open teammates. He’s very good running the break.
3. Dahnte Russell Dahnte Russell 5'8" | PG Harvard-Westlake | 2022 State CA-S – Harvard Westlake 2022
Russell is everything you want in a point guard. He doesn’t force anything, he just plays solid and does what needs to be done to win games. He’s playing on a team full of scorers and he recognizes that. He just keeps the ball moving and gets his teammates shots. He’s an elite ball handler who keeps his composure against tight defensive pressure. Very good on ball defender.
4. Terrance Dixon Terrance Dixon 6'8" | PF Bella Vista Prep | 2022 State AZ Jr – Veritas 2022
This was my first time seeing Dixon play and he really stood out for his defensive ability. He’s got good length and he’s very mobile; can cover a lot of ground quickly. He’s a good shot blocker inside. In the game I saw, he had a couple quick ones early in the game. He can go straight up and block a shot and he’s a good help defender too. He plays good transition defense as well, he can sprint back down court and get a chase down block. Offensively, he’s active around the rim and can finish well.
