The strong 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing was one of the biggest revelations of the 2022 class from Oregon over the summer, as the Summit High School senior turned heads left and right particularly with his combination of size and ability to shoot from the outside. Coaches continue to touch base with Harris and he’s looking to make another official visit soon.
“Recruiting has gone really good, especially more than when I first came to Oregon,” Harris said. “Sterling Jones really helped me get the recruiting process started, getting videos out there so coaches could see me play. It’s been great as they’ve seen me grow since I was a freshman, since I was hurt my sophomore year.”
Jones was Harris’ coach with Players Play, the Southern California-based AAU team he played with this summer. With that squad and over the weekend, the senior really excelled in the catch-and-shoot and coming off of screens, but was able to use his size, strength, and athletic ability to create off the dribble and finish at the rim in transition. His shot of course is what has made him the most attractive to college coaches and it’s the part of his game he focused on the most this off-season.
“I’ve been working on my shot and my range a lot,” Harris said. “Also using a pump fake and getting by defenders.”
Harris currently holds two scholarship offers in Western Oregon and Fresno Pacific, but plenty of other schools continue to have him on their list. He continues to talk with schools such as Idaho State, Azusa Pacific, Seattle Pacific, Cal State Dominguez Hills from the summer and some new schools such as Chico State, Eastern Washington, and Portland have been in touch.
“It’s been more and more as the days go on – it’s exciting to see things happening and it’s happened so far,” Harris said. “It’s almost overwhelming but it’s a good overwhelming. I’m planning on taking an official to Chico State pretty soon. I’m hoping they offer but you never know.”
Harris isn’t totally sure if he will sign early. He notes that while some schools like the ones that have offered and Chico State are for next year, the opportunities with programs such as Eastern Washington and Portland may hinge on him attending prep school after his senior season to join the Class of 2023. But in general, he broke down what he’s looking for at the next level.
“Just where I feel that fits me the best, where I have the best relationship with the coaches,” Harris said. “Where I can feel at home.”
Harris currently ranks as the #7 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
