Prospect Spotlight: Jadyn Harris (2024)
Now that the AAU season and the summer has come to a close, it’s no longer a secret that the 2024 class in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia is loaded with talent. Of that pool is Bishop O’Connell/Team Thrill wing Jadyn Harris Jadyn Harris 6'6" | PF Bishop O'Connell | 2024 State #239 Nation VA . The 6-foot-6 wing enjoyed a productive summer with Team Thrill 15U and looks to translate his success to the winter with his high school team.
“It was a great summer. We added a few pieces to our team. We had our share of highs and lows, but as the live period came we developed as a team and grew a strong relationship together. We were really versatile on defense. Everyone could guard any position. On the offensive end everyone played team basketball. We didn’t really have any problems on that end, so it all worked out for us.”
Harris was correct with his evaluation on his team. They brought chaos to the defensive end with their switch ability and even though they preferred to play at a rapid pace offensively, always seemed to make the right reads to open teammates as a group.
“Individually, at the beginning I wasn’t shooting well, so I got in the gym a lot and as the live periods came, my shot developed. I was also working on just slowing my pace down overall and not rushing things. I feel like that has helped me become a great player.”
Harris caught some eyes during the June Live Period at DMV Live, which helped him earn an offer from NC State. I recently caught him in action at an open workout for Team Thrill featuring prospects from each class. Harris was a clear standout simply due to the effort level on both ends. What caught my immediate attention was the pride he put into his on or off-ball defense in a pick-up game setting. He also converted a few big time pull-up jumpers off the bounce and finished above the rim on multiple occasions.
All signs point to him having a solid sophomore campaign.
“Our team at O’Connell this year is a lot different from last year. We added a few bigs, which will help us a lot and the returners all improved. It’s a big year for us collectively. My role on the team is to bring the energy and to just be the best player and best individual I can possibly be. Like Coach Wooten always says, without me playing my game, the team won’t be the same. It’s on me and I take responsibility to bring it every single night. We have a big chance to win the WCAC this year.”
Harris is due for continued success this winter with O’Connell as they try and make a run in what is stated as the best conference in high school basketball in the WCAC.
