The bouncy 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard from Redmond started catching eyes as videos of his high-flying antics started making the rounds on social media. Now after playing AAU basketball this summer with Oregon Prospects, his stock has really risen and he’s picked up a scholarship offer that might result in an early commitment.
Osborne was grateful for the experience had playing with the Prospects, who played in tournaments both in Oregon as well as California and Las Vegas.
“This was my first time playing with a good AAU team that traveled to some good places, so it was good exposure in front of a lot of coaches,” Osborne said. “I think my catch-and-shooting got a lot better as well as my spot-up shooting. I really didn’t have that in the past, so that was nice.”
A tremendous athlete, Osborne can really get loose in transition and finish above the rim. But shooting is what he wanted to show on the AAU circuit and he did enough of that to show that he could be a reliable threat from the perimeter as well.
College programs certainly paid attention. Going into the summer he had heard some from Carroll College as well as some of the schools in the NWAC. After club ball ended, he notes he’s heard from schools from all levels from Division I programs such as Idaho, Idaho State, and Seattle University to Division II/NAIAs such as Western Oregon, Eastern Oregon, and Embry Riddle, and D-IIIs like George Fox.
In addition to these schools, he picked up his first scholarship offer from Oregon Tech and it’s something that right up his alley. He noted in the summer that his preference was to stay in-state and there’s a lot about the Hustlin’ Owls that he likes. Osborne admits an official visit to campus the weekend of October 14-15 may seal the deal.
“There is for sure a chance I might commit,” Osborne said. “I really like the coaching staff and the players. I watched them practice yesterday and today at Bend Hoops and met all the guys. I just to go somewhere where I enjoy playing.”
Osborne currently ranks as the #57 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
