I got a hands-on look at all of these high-level athletes. Look for their stock to continue to rise after some very impressive performances!
Jacob Wilson Jacob Wilson 6'5" | SF Liberty | 2022 State LA 2022- Liberty High School 6’5
Wilson is a very impressive player; he is fluid in his motion and seems to be a man amongst boys at the guard position. He can truly take anyone off the dribble and can operate out of the mid-post and blow by bigger wings. This is a high-level player who is also a great leaper. He is not reliant on his athleticism and size; however, he is skilled at getting to his spots on the floor where he is comfortable. He was forced to take on bigs at times on defense and held his own very well. I am very interested to see how this year goes for him. Do not sleep on this one.
Zaren James Zaren James 6'5" | CG University Lab | 2022 State LA 2022- University Lab High School 6’5
Zaren was a standout wing who is an incredibly consistent shooter. He has a great frame on him, standing at 6’5. He is great at getting downhill and finishing in the lane and is a knockdown shooter from beyond the arc. He is incredible in the pick and roll, as both the screener and the ball handler. He is great at recognizing when to pop versus slash and always seems to make the defense pay out of those sets. I would like to see him work on his ability to defend positions 3-4, because he is a high-level guard defender already. If he is able to add some more strength to his frame he has the opportunity to become a real two way force at the next level.
Collin Coates Collin Coates 6'5" | SF University Lab | 2022 State LA 2022- Runnels High School
Colin is an athletic wing who has the ability to dominate the ball and make all of the right reads. He is an incredible decision-maker in both the half-court and the full-court. On the break, he can easily go coast to coast with the ball and finish at the rim, but also dish out the right read to the collapsing defense. Down low, he is a patient scorer in the post who does not force himself into contested looks at the rim to often. On the defensive side of the ball, he is a high-level defender who knows how to wreak havoc with his positioning and energy. He is an incredibly smart defender out of the pick and roll and rebounds the ball at a high level on both ends.
Donald Butler Donald Butler 6'5" | SF Walker | 2022 State LA 2022- Walker High School 6’4
Donald is an athletic wing who fights hard on the glass. He is a great leaper with the ability to jump multiple times and gets multiple offensive rebounding opportunities. He is incredibly lanky and long which should be a great indicator that he is not done growing and may continue to grow through college. His mobility allows him to be a freak on the fast break. I would like to see him work on his ability to move laterally but his end-to-end speed and length still allow him to be a consistent finisher at the rim. I would also like to see him work on his pull-up game in the midrange, he will be punishing defenders at the rim and will be given enough space to incorporate that easily into his game.
