Guards
SG Noah Allen Noah Allen 5'11" | PG Pella | 2022 State IA (Pella)
A 5-10 sharpshooting guard, Allen buried 42.9% of his 3-point attempts last season for the 3A champs. He transferred to Pella from Newton before his junior year, and is one of the best in the state at moving off the ball and shooting it off the catch. We’ll be looking to see if he has improved his playmaking skills for others, and the ability to create his own shot. We know he can torch teams off the ball, can he do the same with the ball in his hands?
PG Kaleb Booth Kaleb Booth 6'1" | SG Carroll | 2022 State IA (Carroll)
Booth is outstanding with the ball in his hands, using a quick first step to blow by defenders, and he has one of the best mid-range games in the state, showing the ability to stop on a dime and elevate into his picturesque jumper. He does a great job using his off-arm and good footwork to create that tiny bit of space he needs to get his shot off.
PG Maddox Griffin Maddox Griffin 6'1" | PG Wapello | 2022 State IA (Wapello)
A do-it-all lead guard with great size at 6-4, Griffin does a nice job playing with pace and letting the game come to him. He shot 56% from the floor last year, and that’s because he doesn’t force anything. He’ll pass up his own good shot for a great shot for a teammate. He has a great feel for the game and excellent command of an offense.
PG Jayden Mackie Jayden Mackie 6'2" | PG Aplington-Parkersburg | 2022 State IA (Aplington-Parkersburg)
The lone committed player currently in the event, Mackie will play his college ball at Division II Upper Iowa. He was a breakout star at the 2A state tournament, showing his ability to fill it up in a hurry from all three levels. He’s a quick, athletic lead guard who can finish above the rim in transition, get to the rim in the halfcourt, or pull up and kill teams from behind the arc.
SG Jaxson Young Jaxson Young 6'0" | SG Linn-Mar | 2022 State IA (Linn-Mar)
Young is a 6-2 off-ball guard who can score from all three levels. He does a good job using his quick first step and his bigger, physical frame to bully his way to the rim for finishes. He has a solid mid-range game and is working to become a more consistent 3-point shooter. He has the frame and athleticism to be a strong on-ball defender.
Wings
SF Kole Becker Kole Becker 6'3" | PF Lisbon | 2022 State IA (Lisbon)
A 6-4 wing who scores efficiently from all three levels, Becker is coming off a strong summer with Martin Brothers and will be looking to carry that momentum into his senior season. He’s a crafty scorer who does a good job creating space to get his shot off.
SF Vance Katzfey Vance Katzfey 6'3" | SG Spirit Lake | 2022 State IA (Spirit Lake)
Katzfey was a standout at last year’s Expo, showcasing his ability to score from all three levels, with and without the ball in his hands. He moves well off the ball and is at his best when he’s playing downhill and getting to the rim, using his athleticism to finish.
Bigs
C Cameron Fens Cameron Fens 7'0" | C Hempstead | 2022 State IA (Hempstead)
Fens is a big interior presence at 6-10 who defends the pick-and-roll well, showing hard and getting back to his man quickly. He keeps the ball high on rebounds and post touches, and has good footwork and touch around the bucket. He can protect the rim, and while his offensive game is still a work in progress, his defense will make him a coveted prospect.
PF Trey Kriener Trey Kriener 6'7" | C South Winneshiek | 2022 State IA (South Winneshiek)
A stretch-four who can protect the rim, run the floor, and shoot it from the arc, Kriener is a modern big man personified. He’s a switchable defender and strong rebounder with length and athleticism. We’ll be looking to see how he holds up against some of the talented bigs in the event who will try to push him around. If he can hold his ground, that’ll be a great sign moving forward for Kriener.
PF Trevion Labeaux Trevion Labeaux 6'3" | SF Ames | 2022 State IA (Ames)
LaBeaux may be more of a wing at the next level, but he didn’t attempt a 3-point shot last year for the Little Cyclones, so we’ll count him as a big for now. He’s undersized for a big at the next level at 6-4, but he has great length and springs in his legs that help make up for the lack of traditional size. He’s a versatile defender who can switch and defend either bigs or guards, and he’s great on the glass on both ends of the floor.
