Continue ReadingThe Gaso Fall Classic featured many of the best schools in the state of Texas along with many of the top players in the state of Texas. Marquee matchups such as #2 in the Nation Duncanville Panthers versus the Mckinney Lions. A matchup of two powerhouses in 6A basketball that showcased 3 of the Top 10 players in the Class of 23’ and another top prospect in the Top 100. The list will go on with a bevy of top talent across this great state. These players were my Outstanding Performers.
2023 Ron Holland Ron Holland 6'9" | PF Duncanville | 2023 State #7 Nation TX | PF | Drive Nation | Duncanville
Holland decided the #Gaso fall classic would be a showcase of his other skills. We knew he could rebound, run the floor like a deer and dunk ferociously. (He did all of that). Holland brought the ball up at times creating offense for others assisting or scoring on many of those occasions. #1 in our class of 2023 rankings Holland brings a special energy to the game of basketball.
2023 Robert Jones | G | Drive Nation | John Paul High School
Jones is a smooth operator. Standing at 6’5 he displays all the tools of a guard poised for stardom one day. Jones displayed his scoring ability along with an ability to play make and create for others. Great size and height for the next level. Jones is primed for another strong school season.
2024 Trey Jackson | C | 1NE Percent | South Oak Cliff
The paint was Jackson’s, he controlled the paint like the centers of old. Blocking 4 shots in a span of 2 minutes. It impressed me as he was blocking shots and securing the rebounds of those shots as they came down without fouling. Which led to him running the floor finishing on the other end through contact. As the game continued Jackson’s offensive began to follow finishing with an array of moves around the rim.
2023 RJ Chatman | PG | BBSS National | Sachse
Chatman scored the first 10 points of the game for the Mustangs to get things started for them. As many of the top prospects possess 1% athleticism. Chatman possesses 1% speed and explosiveness, which he used to attack the rim at will finishing with either the left or right hand. When Chatman wasn’t on the floor things didn’t look good for the Mustangs allowing a back and forth battle between their opponent. Chatman closed the game out with what would have been the go-ahead three. Instead, his opponents decided they weren’t ready to concede. Ball in Chatman’s hands 5.2 seconds remaining he left no doubt game would be over after scoring the game-winning bucket as time expired finishing the contest with a game-high 26 points. That level of production will be needed from Chatman all season.
2022 Vojin Mastilovic Vojin Mastilovic 6'7" | SG Spring Creek Academy | 2022 State TX | F | SCA |
Mastilovic is the epitome of versatility. At 6’7 he can do it all. Need a rebound he will get it, need an assist he will get it, need a bucket he will get that as well. Everything Mastilovic did was in the flow of the offense nothing rushed, nothing out of control. Did I forget to mention he has a 3 ball that is second to none! His high release allowed him to get to his spots and just pull up at will, shooting over the top of defenders. With all that said what impressed me the most was his communication on the court. He made sure his teammates knew where to be on the defensive end at all times. Mastilovic is primed for a big year.
2024 Tre Johnson Tre Johnson 6'5" | SG Link Academy | 2024 #4 Nation MO | G | Team Griffin | Lake Highlands
I can’t say it enough I love this kid! Every time I see him, Johnson shows me something different. This day he started off showing what he would do when the three-ball is off. Take those smaller guards to the mid-post pick a shoulder and finish over the top. Every time Johnson caught the ball it started off as one on one but ended with a swarm of defenders and hard fouls. I’ve seen many players at his age complain to the ref or even try to explain to the ref what’s taking place. Johnson’s body language didn’t change nor did his demeanor, he just showed another aspect of his game. Full court bullet left-hand passes, hard drives to the basket to no-look left-hand passes. This young man though he didn’t have one of those high clip-scoring games I’m used to seeing from him, displayed why he’s #1 in our 2024 rankings.
