Continue ReadingThe smaller schools in West Virginia are not known for the size of their centers so it can be very difficult to find a player with the proper size and skill to thrive at the collegiate level in this state. The Mountain State Conference has some of the bigger schools in the area and have a few centers with collegiate size (which is the focus of this article) and perhaps this year some will show the skills necessary to play at the next level.
Braydin Ward (2023) | 6-6 C | Riverside
Braydin led the conference in rebounding last season according to Maxpreps and is one of the tallest players in the conference. He currently needs to develop his overall basketball skill set but he is only a junior this season so he has time to develop into a quality player.
Corbin Page Corbin Page 6'5" | C Spring Valley | 2022 State WV (2022) | 6-5 C | Spring Valley
A quality big man in this conference and currently sits in the top 35 in Prephoops player rankings for the state. Corbn is a great player on a lesser team but he is not big enough to play center at a high level in college so he will probably need to change positions. This season he can show that he has the skills to make that transition.
Gabe Beny Till (2022) | 6-9 C | Hurricane
Maxpreps currently lists Gabe at 6-11 and 210 pounds but after watching him play I think he is closer to 6-9 because he did not tower over his opponents last season. He is mainly included on this list due to his size because he really needs to develop his scoring and strength this year if he wants to reach his full potential.
Elijah Crompton (2022) | 6-7 SF C | Hurricane
With great size and decent jumper Elijah could be a solid player this season but could be better suited to play SF in college. He isn’t as dominant on the boards as he should be and he seems to want to be a guard. If that is what he wants to be then he is going to have to show he developed those skills this year and help push Hurricane towards the top of the conference. If he still isn’t getting the minutes this year then that will be a sign he just may never be ready.
