You have teams like Tooele and Stansbury having to make the trek to Uintah when Uintah could easily be in the same region as Wasatch. Either way there is a much improved Hillcrest team as well as a team in Cedar Valley that could really take a jump in this region.
Cedar Valley
Cedar Valley is one of the fastest growing school sin the state. i would not be surprised if it goes to 6A during the next reclassification. Cedar Valley has some talent and they’re well coached but they will need major production from Cole Roberts Cole Roberts 6'1" | CG Cedar Valley | 2023 State UT . Cole has the ability to score the basketball. He can nail some tough three’s as he can go off for 5+ on any given night. He is a zone killer but he finds other ways to score. Should be a 15 and 6 type of season for the Class of 2023 prospect.
Cottonwood
Last season Cottonwood failed to get to 500 but this season they will have an easier road to success, but their success will be riding on Aiden Oliphant who is just a hooper that has a high motor. Aiden has the ability to score in double figures every game and if he is consistent he will be a major factor in Cottonwood turning the corner this year. Look for Cottonwood to compete for region, especially if Aiden can produce.
Hillcrest
Hillcrest had some growing pains last season with a new coach but they had some moments when they looked great. The key to a lot of the success will come from Maddux Albers Maddux Albers 5'11" | PG Hillcrest | 2023 State UT . Maddux has some pieces beside him that could really score and help take the load off. If he gets those assist numbers up it will open up lanes for him and he will have a breakout year. Keep an eye on Hillcrest they could have something brewing out there.
Payson
Payson switches reason for some reason as now they will be playing away from everyone that is geographically near them. In this region they might have a better opportunity to compete and part of them competing will rely on Zachary Robbins. Last season Zach did a little bit of everything to help Payson have a good year, they are well coached and they run good sets. This season will require Zach to really step up his game and score the ball a lot more.
Stansbury
Stansbury will need a big year from Landon Giles Landon Giles 6'3" | SG Stansbury | 2022 State UT . Landon has the ability to nail over 50 three-pointers and frankly they will need him to likely hit more. Landon will be a major factor and he might have to increase his scoring output by at least 3 points but Stansbury could be a dark horse in this region.
Tooele
Tooele will look to Julian Mahoe Julian Mahoe 6'6" | PF Tooele | 2022 State UT for a bit of everything. Julian is big and mobil and can really hurt teams down on the blocks. With his ability to get up and down the floor he can rattle off quick points.
Uintah
John Speirs will need to be a big part of the scoring in Uintah. He has been a bright spot up there and he will carry the load again. Look for him to possibly lead his team in almost every category. Could have a big year scoring.
