Looking around Kingdom Hoops Complex it was evident that size wasn’t going to be a determining factor of guard play for the day. Most felt right at home because the great past legend Curtis Stinson coaches and trains for the Kingdom club. Three’s were reigning and ankles were breaking as the crew showed amazing ball control and handles all around. Iowa builds guards right.
Tanner Michael Tanner Michael 6'0" | PG Hudson | 2024 State IA was by far the most impressive Combo guard of the day. The 5’6″ Class of 2024 Independence High School guard held his own all day. Hitting three’s and playing lock down defense. He was always hustling and making the right play. Can finish with a runner or lay up all day. crashes the boards so well for a guard and doesn’t have to have the ball in his hands the whole time to make an impact on the court.
Kaleb Booth Kaleb Booth 6'1" | SG Carroll | 2022 State IAThe 6’1″ Carroll High combo guard is explosive. Super unselfish. Could probably get a bucket every time down the floor if he wanted. Deadly three point accuracy when he played for me. Pushed the pace the whole game. Class of 2022. Plays his club ball for All Iowa Attack.
Braylon Dawes Braylon Dawes 5'11" | SG Panorama | 2024 State IA5’10″ Panorama High Class of 2024. Plays his club ball for Central Iowa Young Guns. Dawes brought an energy to the court that was unmatched all day. He’s a pest on defense. Handles the ball extremely well and is super shaky. Shifts gears and keeps the defender on his toes.
KJ LaMonte KJ LaMonte 6'2" Davenport North | 2024 IAThe Davenport North Guard Plays his school ball for the QC Shockers. Class of 2024. KJ is long and only getting stronger and bigger. His father played overseas for many seasons and has his son polished inside and outside. A big guard that can handle the pressure, or step up and hit the game winner. He can get you buckets in a hurry. Plays great defense that usually turns into run out layups up. Amazing passing ability and see’s the court well. Rebounds great for a combo guard. Likes to run the show.
Stay tuned for my Top 60 list from the Expo. I circled all the players making waves and I will run down so of those players to watch this upcoming school ball season.
