Often times at showcases, it can become an offensive showcase where defense takes a backseat. Not at Flight Hankamp. With the old fashioned basketball feel, there is a lot of pride that comes from a big play or stop on the defensive end. Here are just a few of the players that stood out defensively at Flight Hankamp.
Check out more of our Flight Hankamp coverage below:
Stevie Elam Stevie Elam 6'2" | CG Adrian | 2025 State MI (2025, Adrian)
Elam has future star written all over him. While he looked prolific on the offensive end, it was probably his defense that truly separates. Elam proved that he could defend the entire length of the floor and create a turnover at any time.
Nathan Johnson Nathan Johnson 6'5" | SG Grand Rapids Christian | 2024 State MI (2024, Grand Rapids Christian)
Johnson uses his length and athleticism to alter and block shots on a regular basis. He can play D all over the floor, from the perimeter to the paint. Johnson showed a ton of hustle on defense, one time picking up a block in transition, just from hustling back on D.
Derrick King (2024, Ottawa Hills)
King brings a lot of energy to the defensive end. He’s all a fast twitch defender that can go 0 to 100 at the snap of a finger. This allows to be sneakily slick in the passing lanes as well as switch and help on defense with ease. King can cause havoc and force a turnover on a moment’s notice.
Mason Struck Mason Struck 6'6" | PF Chesaning | 2024 State MI (2024, Chesaning)
Struck has a ton of potential on both ends of the floor and that was very evident at Flight Hankamp. This young man has all the tools. He picks up stops on D the old fashioned way…..by battling. He’s a warrior on defense especially when defending the paint.
