Edna Karr’s Leland Smith Leland Smith 6'3" | CG Edna Karr | 2022 State LA (PH #31) (from his performance at the Mal Mundy’s Statement Session) and Varnavous Narcisse (PH #86) of Carencro (one of the breakout stars of the Prep Hoops LA Top 250) usher in a group of newcomers who might not be known throughout the state but are testaments to how deep the talent pool is within the state of Louisiana.
Alex Broussard (6’3″ / Vermilion Catholic / PH LA #67)
Broussard is one of the more athletic off guards/wings in the class. He flew under the radar playing at Vermilion Catholic but made a great impression at the PH Louisiana Top 250. Broussard can spot-up for outside shots and is a good shooter. Attacking the basket seems to be what he is best at. He has the ups to dunk on defenders or create enough body control to finish through contact. Broussard will probably be one of the best players in 1A and will be in line for many postseason accolades.
Antonio Coleman Antonio Coleman 6'3" | SG Airline | 2022 State LA (6’2″ / Airline / PH LA #101)
Coleman came back to the Boot after a year away and looked like he was on a revenge tour in early June. He is an athletic guard who gets downhill with the best of them. Coleman loves to attack from the wings and gets fouled a ton in doing so. He also has a good pull-up game which helps him when the lane is bogged down. Improving the consistency of his perimeter shot will help Coleman move up the rankings as the season goes. His return to the Boot will also help a young Airline team with scoring and provide them some toughness as well.
Davieon Coleman Davieon Coleman 6'5" | SF Captain Shreve | 2022 State LA (6’4″ / Captain Shreve / PH LA #74)
This year’s version of the Gators will have a lot of interchangeable parts at the post positions. One player that may make a difference is Davieon Coleman Davieon Coleman 6'5" | SF Captain Shreve | 2022 State LA . During June, each team camp and summer league game was a showcase of his skill set. He is skilled enough to take bigs and smalls off the dribble. He can score from each block and usually gets his fair share of putbacks and rebounds. He is a multi-facted player who can be trouble for any team. If he catches the rock, something good is going to happen with it in his hands.
Deion Gipson (5’9″ / Union Parish / PH LA #111)
At the PH Louisiana Top 250, guards defending Gipson had a hard time. His first step is cat quick and he can get to the rim in a hurry. Gipson also changed ends of the floor swiftly and had several layups in the open floor just being faster than others. On the defensive end of the ball, he is an irritant who makes it hard for other guards to get shots off. Considering the guards he plays against in 2-3A, Gipson needs that quickness on both ends of the floor. Couple his quickness with an outside shot and he will give teams fits next season.
D’anthony Kimble D’anthony Kimble 6'4" | CG Homer | 2022 State LA (6’3″ / Homer / PHLA #63)
On the 1A level, Kimble is a player who has the makings of an all-state player. He is literally a swiss army knife on offense, He can score and pass from the high post, go get it off the glass can lead the break, or make jumpers from the three point line into the mid-range. Kimble is a versatile player like Davieon Coleman Davieon Coleman 6'5" | SF Captain Shreve | 2022 State LA in the that sense. He is a player who is extra hard to defend because he can put defenses in peril from anywhere. This rankings newcomer may very well end his senior season more highly rated because of everything he does on the floor.
Jeffarie Landry Jeffarie Landry 6'5" | SF East Jefferson | 2022 State LA (6’7″ / East Jefferson / PH LA #62)
The Statement Session hosted by Mal Mundy did Landry a world of good. During that day, he was able to display that he was more than just a post guy who could score in the paint. He is a player who has expanded his game to include the corner three. From making a couple of triples, Landry was able to attack the rim using a solid head fake to get by the intial defender and forcing help side defenders to foul him when he got to the paint. He is one of the stronger forwards I have seen. If he punishes defenses all season, his ranking will definitely move up.
Montreal Myles (6’3″ / Liberty / PH LA #110)
There were some games on the Prep Hoops Circuit when Hustle Hard 17U needed a spark and Myles filled that void. He played as an undersized post and worked his tail off in the paint for rebounds and putbacks. Myles continued that trend at the Top 250 scoring around the basket and short shots in the paint. He has played well as an energy player who does the dirty work needed for teams to be successful. Myles may be a newcomer to the rankings, but he has been a good player all summer long.
Tony Walker (6’3″ / Northlake Christian / PH LA #43)
Walker is an athletic combo guard who is most dangerous when he is driving to the cup. Walker has a strong upper body and can create openings for himself using it. He also has a solid pull-up jumper that is very hard to defend because he can stop quickly and elevate higher than others. During the PH LA Top 250, Walker displayed some quick hands on defense as well. This gave him a couple of breakaway opportunities to show off his bunnies. Walker is new to the rankings but a player to watch as the season unfolds.
Micah Willis Micah Willis 6'3" | CG Slidell | 2022 State LA (6’3″ / Slidell / #79)
Willis entered the class of 2022 rankings after a live period which saw him hit a game winner in Birmingham for Hustle Hard Elite and play well in their other live period games. He is a capable of scoring at all three levels but does most of his damage in the paint. Willis hits defenders with a low crossover and then accelerates by. He is very effective on mid-range pull-ups and contested layups at the rack. The top half of the rankings may be where he starts but that is not where he is going to end more than likely. He is a player with an abundance of skill.
