1.) 2023 Pryce Sandfort Pryce Sandfort 6'7" | SF Waukee Northwest | 2023 State #123 Nation IA (Waukee Northwest) – 27/54 (50.0%)
An elite role player for the Warriors during last year’s state championship run, the younger brother of Payton is ready to take over his own team, as he showed throughout the summer with OSA Crusaders. He’s hearing from the likes of Gonzaga, is a recently named top-100 national prospect in the 2023 class, and is a sniper with elite length. Sandfort is ready to explode this year for the new school in town.
2.) 2023 Jaden Harris Jaden Harris 6'0" | PG Cedar Rapids Washington | 2023 State IA (Cedar Rapids Washington) – 31/64 (48.4%)
Harris was excellent as a sophomore, shooting better from behind the arc than he did inside of it. His shooting prowess is a big boost to a Warriors team that is filled with quick guards who can get into the paint.
3.) 2023 Elijah Vos Elijah Vos 6'4" | SF Hoover | 2023 State IA (Hoover) – 37/77 (48.1%)
Vos is a big wing at 6-5 who uses his size advantage to get his shot off whenever he wants. With Manny Austin Manny Austin 6'3" | SG Des Moines Hoover | 2021 State IA graduated, more shots should open up for Vos, a talented scorer from all three levels with a beautiful stroke and extended range.
4.) 2023 Drake Kapayou Drake Kapayou 6'0" | PG Marshalltown | 2023 State IA (Marshalltown) – 44/96 (45.8%)
Kapayou does a really good job moving without the ball in his hands, finding open spots in the defense to get his shot off. He has a quick release off the catch and is capable of getting scorching hot in a hurry. He’s a pure shooter whose 3-point attempts accounted for over 77% of his shot attempts as a sophomore.
5.) 2022 Cooper Nailor Cooper Nailor 5'11" | PG Indianola | 2022 State IA (Indianola) – 46/107 (43.0%)
Nailor was able to play off the ball a fair amount last year, showing his ability to knock down shots off the catch and move effectively without the ball in his hands. Following the graduation of CJ Kuehl CJ Kuehl 6'0" | PG Indianola | 2021 State IA , he’ll have the ball in his hands more, and if his play at the Winterset Shootout in June was any indication, that shouldn’t be an issue at all. There he showed the ability to create his own shot and shoot it off the dribble while also getting his teammates involved.
6.) 2024 Carson Johnson Carson Johnson 5'11" | PG Ankeny | 2024 State IA (Ankeny) – 29/69 (42.0%)
Johnson was extremely productive as a freshman, burying 42% of his 3-point attempts and being one of the leaders of a solid Hawks attack. He’s small, listed at 5-9 last year, but is an excellent ball-handler with a dead-eye from behind the arc. He’ll pace an Ankeny team that will be one of the most improved in 4A this year.
7.) 2023 Dallas Bear Dallas Bear 6'8" | SF Cedar Falls | 2023 State #276 Nation IA (Cedar Falls) – 30/72 (41.7%)
Bear was a key role player last year for the Tigers and will step into a much larger role this year following a number of graduations. The 6-7 wing already holds a pair of Division I offers from Augustana (SD) and Bryant, and that list should continue to explode as schools get a look at a player with his length and shooting ability. Over 81% of his field-goal attempts came from behind the arc last season. He’s working to expand his all-around offensive game, but it’s the length and shooting that make him special.
8.) 2022 Oliver Hughes Oliver Hughes 5'11" | PG North Scott | 2022 State IA (North Scott) – 39/94 (41.5%)
Hughes accounted for nearly a third of the Lancers made 3-pointers last year. He does a good job playing off the ball, moving and finding spaces in the defense to get his shot off.
9.) 2023 Kenzie Reed Kenzie Reed 5'11" | PG Kennedy | 2023 State IA (Kennedy) – 36/88 (40.9%)
Reed will also find himself on our returning assists countdown. A quick lead guard with excellent court vision, he makes up for his lack of size with his quickness, IQ, and footwork. He has the ability to create his own shot and uses his footwork to open up that tiny bit of space he needs to get his shot off. He has really improved his perimeter stroke over the last few years, turning himself into a knockdown shooter both off the dribble and the catch.
10.) 2023 Colby Dolphin Colby Dolphin 5'10" | PG Kennedy | 2023 State IA (Kennedy) – 21/52 (40.4%)
Another key contributor for a really good Kennedy team last year as a sophomore, Dolphin has a quick release off the catch and has the ability to create his own shot as well. He’s an effective mid-range scorer as well, and is a solid on-ball defender with active hands and quick feet. Dolphin looks primed to have a big junior season for the Cougars, pairing with Reed to give them a dynamic shooting backcourt.
