We saw important skill developments from Carey Booth Carey Booth 6'9" | PF Brewster Academy | 2023 State #83 Nation NLG and Archer VanSickle Archer VanSickle 6'4" | CG Valor Christian | 2023 State CO . Along with the 2023 guys, we saw the 2022 players shine yet again with incredible composure.
Archer VanSickle Archer VanSickle 6'4" | CG Valor Christian | 2023 State CO – Regis Jesuit – 2023
Popping off for 40 points, Archer VanSickle Archer VanSickle 6'4" | CG Valor Christian | 2023 State CO left a statement in his first game. On top of this this, he scored his team’s first 23 points to open the game. Throughout that run, he hit at least six threes all of which came off the catch. In one instance, he stretched his range way out about six feet behind the line. His lower release was not a detriment in this game, but it is an area to keep an eye on against bigger defenders. Defensively, VanSickle did well maintaining balance to run others off the line along with quick hands to pick away the ball. In the first half alone, he had three deflections.
Cameron Lowe Cameron Lowe 6'5" | SF Lewis-Palmer | 2022 State CO – Lewis-Palmer – 2022
Lowe tends to set the standard at this point, finishing with a balanced 31 points. The 6’5 shooting guard was in complete control of the pace throughout the whole game. There was not a single forced shot throughout the whole contest, where he scored within his team’s flow. Breaking down others off the dribble, Lowe got the rim with ease, scoring with either hand. Against smaller guards, he bullied them in the post to create short turnaround fadeaways and double teams that lead to open shots for his teammates. Another aspect of Lowe is his leadership, where he took aside teammate Alex Rodriguez Alex Rodriguez 6'1" | CG Dakota Ridge | 2023 State CO after a missed three to pump him up, whoever gets Lowe will get a stone cold killer.
Carey Booth Carey Booth 6'9" | PF Brewster Academy | 2023 State #83 Nation NLG – Cherry Creek – 2023
The lanky forward had an impressive 27 point performance from all three levels. Being the tallest player in the gym, Booth could easily finish above the help defense and weakside rotations. My biggest surprise was his shooting, which has appeared to have made significant strides throughout the summer. He is still most effective in the mid-range, however he is becoming more confident taking tough shots off the dribble. At 6’9″, Booth possesses defensive versatility few players in the state have, allowing him to be a matchup nightmare for wings and bigger guards looking to create a shot.
Jordan Reed Jordan Reed 6'5" | CG Manual | 2022 State CO – Manual – 2022
Finishing with a 30-ball, Reed enjoyed pushing the pace throughout the game, proving he is one of fastest athletes at the super 64 camp. Paired with his quick crossovers and overwhelming first step, Reed was able to find opportunities around the rim with ease. Once he got to the rim, his decision making shined by acknowledging the help rotations and finding corner shooters. Following last year at Manual High School, he lead the team in points (18.8), assists (7.1), threes (30 total, 38%), and ranked second in rebounds (6.6).
Nathaniel Owen Nathaniel Owen 6'5" | SG Belleview Christian | 2023 State CO – Belleview Christian – 2023
The shifty scoring guard finished with 27 and proved his ballhandling package is ahead of the competition, as he consistently found ways to break down the defense. Pick and pop situations with him and Booth were dangerous, given how well Owen leveraged the defense towards him for easy passes. Owen demonstrated self-creation and shot-making equity, stepping into multiple threes and turning into fifteen foot fadeaways. To open up the game, his team had four straight turnovers, of which Owen committed two. As his other teammates gain chemistry, expect their turnovers to improve significantly.
