The NCAA provided 6 Live Period Days in June (June 18th – 20th June 25th-27th) and 9 Days in July (July 8th – 11th, July 21st -26th). Some players used this period to justify their rankings, others as a way to catch the eyes of coaches and scouts. In this article, we take a look at some local players who used the summer to raise their stock.
Isaiah Carr Isaiah Carr 6'11" | C Las Cruces | 2022 State NM 6’11 C Las Cruces 2022 (#1PHNM 2022) – Carr is one of the top shot blockers in America. The 6’11 post showed off his fluidity and rim running ability in front of scouts all summer, eventually committing to GCU. He’s a ready-made college defender, that should be able to provide immediate rim protection.
William Benjamin Jr. 6’1 CG Las Cruces 2022 (#4PHNM 2022) – Benjamin is a lighting quick, athletic, combo guard. His ability to defend and turn defense into offense is valuable, and his overall scoring and athletic ability translate well to the next level.
Donovan Black Donovan Black 6'6" | PF Del Valle | 2023 State TX 6’6 SF Onate 2023 (#1PHNM 2023) – Black stood out for more than two reasons, his defensive versatility and ball skills. The 6’6 wing showed the ability to defend multiple positions this summer, and was effective putting the ball on the deck, and making plays for himself.
Gideon Harris Gideon Harris 6'2" | SF ABC Prep | 2023 State NM 6’2 SF ABC Prep 2023 (#PHNM 2023) – Harris is one of the top rebounders pound for pound. Although only 6’2 he’s unafraid to stick his nose in and battle for boards against bigger players. Harris raised his stock by showing he can knock down open jumpers and defend 1 through 3.
Exodus Ayers Exodus Ayers 6'2" | CG La Cueva | 2023 NLG 6’2 SG LaCueva 2023 (#3PHNM 2023) – One of my favorite players to watch this summer. Ayers displayed the lost art of the midrange, as well as an ability to get to the rim. The shooting guard also showed combo skills, displaying the willingness to hit open teammates.
Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM 6’0 CG Volcano Vista 2022 (#PHNM 2022) – Hill is a scoring machine that was at his best while leading his ABC club to the Prephoops Hustle Region Title. Hill has raised his stock by showing a consistent ability to get paint touches. He also has a nasty float game, allowing him to finish over bigs. He was named MVP of the 17U Hustle Region Finals.
