Big Shots Southeast Showdown: 2023 Standouts, Pt II
The Big Shots Southeast Showdown brought a ton of talent from the 2023 class to the forefront. Here’s a look at some standouts in the 2023 class out of the state of South Carolina and West Virginia.
Sam Crabtree | 5’9 Guard | PSB Elite Charleston 2023
Crabtree is a scrappy guard with solid instincts and a nose for the ball, especially on the defensive end of the floor. He’s a strong framed guard with an ability to defend with a ton of pressure and force turnovers on the perimeter. Offensively, he’s got solid combo guard instincts, dishing the ball and shooting the ball on the perimeter. He’s an impressive name to track at Goose Creek High.
Daunte Taylor Daunte Taylor 6'4" | SF Goose Creek | 2023 State SC | 6’4 Forward/Wing | PSB Elite Charleston 2023
Taylor was an impressive 1-2 combination, especially in the pick-and-roll game with Elijah Dates Elijah Dates 6'2" | CG Goose Creek | 2023 State SC . He used his length and frame at 6-foot-4 very well to finish in the paint and showed off his athleticism as a finisher in the paint. He showed he can handle the ball and rebound just as well. He’s another intriguing name with some versatility at Goose Creek High.
Zackery Watkins | 6’2 Guard | HYB Raps Extreme
Watkins is an emerging guard to track in the 2023 class that had a productive weekend with HYB Raps Extreme. He posted 14 points alongside Marques Smith Marques Smith 6'2" | CG Richland Northeast | 2023 State SC as they showed off their ability to co-exist in the backcourt. He produced 10.0 ppg while showing off his ability to operate on all three levels and defend with a ton of presence. He’s at Richland Northeast High in SC.
Marques Smith Marques Smith 6'2" | CG Richland Northeast | 2023 State SC | 6’2 Guard | HYB Raps Extreme
Smith was another prospect for HYB Raps Extreme that showed his stuff at Big Shots Southeast Showdown. He put up 15 points in their title victory in the 16U division and averaged 10.8 ppg while showing off his ability to navigate off the bounce and make plays with the ball in his hands. He’s a combo guard to keep an eye on over at Columbia High.
Chase Hancock | 6’0 Guard | Team Work
Hancock was another standout for Team Work at Big Shots Southeast Showdown. He’s a gritty prospect that makes his presence felt on both ends of the floor with his ability to make plays. He showed poise as a scorer, defender and rebounder and finished the weekend with 29 points against Team Clutch Elite. He’ll be one to watch at Princeton High out of West Virginia in the 2023 class.
Reginald Hairston | 6’3 Forward/Wing | Team Work
Hairston is another prospect that showed his stuff with Team Work this past weekend at Big Shots Southeast Showdown. He was another top standout in the rotation with his ability to rebound the ball and finish plays in the pint. He averaged 15.7 ppg including 21 points in a comeback victory over PSB Charleston 2023. He’s another face at Bluefield High in West Virginia’s 2023 class to track.
