It’s somewhat common for ninth graders to get a shot on the varsity, and every year a few stand out. The 1A class featured two ranked players, but there were a few more who were considered but didn’t quite make the first reveal. They should be included soon.
Here are some of the 2024s we expect to make an impact on the 1A classification:
21 Peyton Ryan Peyton Ryan 5'9" | CG Central Plains | 2024 State KS , 5-foot-9 combo guard, Central Plains HS:
Ryan is a very skilled and quick athlete with fine handles and vision. He has a high IQ and sense for the game, and he’s a fearless competitor. He tried to give the Oilers some of everything last year. He averaged 12.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals.
23 Spencer Coup Spencer Coup 6'1" | SG Solomon | 2024 State KS , 6-foot shooting guard, Solomon HS:
Solomon just keeps producing top-flight guards. Coup joined a talented team and instantly provided them a deep ball threat. But he’s not just a shooter. He dished out 2.7 assists per game, and also grabbed 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals a contest. He got a lot of great experience with SSA Hoops Elite this summer, and is ready to help take Solomon to the next level.
Andrew Bowman, 5-foot-11 guard, 2024, Bucklin HS:
Bucklin will be loaded for the upcoming season, and Bowman gained a lot of good experience as a rookie. He averaged 7.6 points and 5.0 rebounds, and was disruptive at the defensive end with 2.0 steals a game. Bucklin will have plenty of scoring threats and tons of experience back.
Gage Burk, 6-foot-3 center, 2024, Lacrosse HS:
Burk was one of the leading 2024 big men in the small school ranks. He thrived in the post and was an efficient scorer, not taking a lot of shots yet producing 6.2 points per game. He added 3.7 boards a game, and should make a big leap in production this year.
Landon McPhail, 5-foot-11 guard, 2024, Ashland HS:
McPhail was one of the top players considered for a spot in the initial rankings, and will certainly grab a spot soon if he continues the pace he set as a freshman. He was one of the more productive ninth graders
