We dive into the positional rankings. We start with the point guards for the sophomore class.
Arguably the top position from this class despite losing a top notch PG to New Mexico.
Here are the top-7 PG’s in the 2024 class:
Styles Phipps Styles Phipps 6'1" | PG St Mary's | 2024 State #182 Nation AZ St. Mary’s (Pictured)
The top player in the class has full command of his teams. From 17U to his HS team he knows where his players are at all times and has a high feel for the game. He consistently changes speeds and can score it from all levels. The ball is on a string for him and he can slice up defenses.
Donovan Beard Donovan Beard 6'2" | PG Dobson | 2024 State AZ Dobson
A long, extremely young lead guard who can score it. He is a pest on the ball defensively and can score it from all 3 levels. He can pull-up from mid and has a nice floater. He is so young that he could easily be entering HS as an incoming freshman.
Luke Shaw Luke Shaw 6'3" | CG Valley Christian | 2024 State AZ Valley Christian
One of the stock risers had a steady summer and will look to help put the Trojans back into playoff contention. His scoring comes natural and he can make plays as well with a big IQ for the game.
Gabe Pickens Gabe Pickens 6'0" | PG Dream City Christian | 2024 State AZ Millennium
A pure PG with power and strength. He has a tight handle and gets downhill with the best of them. He can hit the deep-3 with streaks and his drive and kick into a teammates shooting pocket is next level stuff.
Isaiah Bronson Isaiah Bronson 6'2" | PG Phhoenix Prep | 2024 State AZ Gilbert
A scoring lead guard with a nasty pull-up off the dribble from mid-range. He transferred in from Williams Field and should make an immediate impact off the bench in the second half of the season and then likely be a two-year starter. He can make plays for others and has a knack for putting the ball in the cup.
Aiden Dunne Aiden Dunne 6'2" | PG Liberty | 2024 State AZ Paradise Honors
A quickly growing lead guard is that next pure PG from PHHS. He advance passes to get teammates involved and has a high feel for the game. He can hit the catch-3 and get into the lane. Dunne is the future PG of the program and he is another who could be starting HS right now since he is so young.
Jayce McGuirk Jayce McGuirk 6'2" | CG Phhoenix Prep | 2025 State AZ Phhoenix Prep
Another scoring lead guard with a clip. The lefty is a gunner from the 3pt line and is a very good passer to make plays for others. He has decent size and smartly changes speeds to get passed his defenders. His mind and skill work for him.
