Here’s a look at part one of some of the many top glue guys in the state.
Dashawn Harris-Smith | 6’4” WF | Paul VI
When it comes to high level division one glue guys, there aren’t many that come around that are better than Harris-Smith who is very talented at his job and is willing to do it on a daily basis. The 6’4” wing is athletic and strong and a tenacious defender who can guard the other team’s best player, he is unselfish and makes plays for others and he’s an excellent rebounder at his position too.
Steven Stinson Steven Stinson 6'5" | SF John Marshall | 2023 State VA | 6’4” WF | John Marshall
Stinson is starting to see more and more division one attention, and one of the reasons is his versatility and ability to impact the game in a number of ways even when he isn’t the go-to guy offensively. Stinson’s a very strong wing who can bang in the paint and rebounds at a high level, he can play with the ball in his hands and make plays for himself or others and he can catch and shoot and is a tough minded kid as well.
Jadon Pace Jadon Pace 6'4" | SF Kecoughtan | 2023 State VA | 6’4” WF | Kecoughtan
Pace fits a specific archetype of glue guy that college coaches love and that’s the three-and-d wing with good size. At 6’4” Pace has great length and can use that length defensively to get deflections and guard multiple positions, he’s an excellent shooter from deep with good range and consistency off the catch and he has tons of potential moving forward as he continues to develop.
Sam Brannen | 6’0” PG | King’s Fork
Brannen has the skill set to be a top scorer on any team, but it’s his ability to do that while also running the show and making others better that puts him in this list as a top glue guy in the state as well. Brannen has a great IQ and is deadly in pick-and-rolls, he can light it up from deep off the catch and create for himself and others off the bounce and he’s a smart defender on and off the ball as well.
Aiden Filipiano Aiden Filipiano 6'2" | CG Catholic | 2023 State VA | 6’3” CG | Catholic
Filipiano is the definition of a great glue guy as the 6’3” guard is the type of player that will do whatever it takes to help his team win on either end of the floor. He’s extremely active defensively as he gets a lot of steals and deflections, he has good size to play on and off the ball and sees the floor and makes great reads and he’s efficient as a scorer from multiple levels and in a number of different ways.
Kaiden Swortzel Kaiden Swortzel 6'5" | PF Floyd County | 2023 State VA | 6’5” PF | Floyd County
Swortzel is another patented glue guy as he isn’t the biggest or most athletic player on the floor but he always finds ways to be productive and impact the game in winning ways when he’s on the floor. The 6’5” forward is crafty around the basket and excellent at finishing through contact, he is always in help and a good charge taker and he finds ways to get to the free throw line where he’s an excellent free throw shooter too.
