With that said, I want to highlight three 2023 point guards that need to be on college radars.
Treyen Johnson // 5’10” PG // Plainview High
The Plainview point guard is a prototypical gym rat and it translates onto the court. Last season as a sophomore, he averaged 27 PPG and was an All-State Honorable Mention. Johnson is left handed with a high motor and basketball IQ. He has a quick first step, can go either direction, and finishes well with both hands. It also doesn’t hurt that he can shoot the lights out from deep. With two years of high school remaining, his ceiling is very high.
Logan Norsworthy // 5’7” PG // Glenmora High
I am very familiar with Norsworthy’s game, as he has been in the Wildcats’ system since elementary school. Much like Johnson, he will find any unlocked gym and get a workout in. He is a knockdown 3-point shooter with tight handles and a lightning quick first step. Glenmora’s point man also makes good reads and on-point passes. He is tough and plays with a chip on his shoulder. He will no doubt turn some heads over the next two seasons.
Jonathan Barron Jonathan Barron 5'11" | PG Northwood-Lena | 2023 State LA // 5’10” // Northwood-Lena High
Barron steadily improved over the summer playing with the Cenla Dynasty, and I expect him to have a breakout junior year. He is steady, plays with great pace, and does not get rattled. I recently saw him at the LSUA Elite Camp, and he was solid all day. His strength makes him very difficult for smaller guards to stop him in the paint, and he is a bucket on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers. Look for him to lead Northwood-Lena back to Lake Charles in March.
I’m looking forward to following these players (and more) as the high school season gets underway. I have a feeling if they are off the radar now, they will be on it soon enough.
