We will look at some of the most underrated scholarship level players still available in the state of VA. Here’s a look at part one of the underrated scholarship bigs in the senior class.
Obinna Okafor Obinna Okafor 6'6" | PF Bethel | 2022 State VA | 6’8” | Bethel
Okafor has been one of the top interior defenders in the 757 over the past few years, and he has shown good improvement over the past few years on the offensive end as well. He runs the floor hard and is pretty mobile, he is fearless as he contests shots and can meet players at the rim and he is excellent as a rebounder on both ends too.
Spencer Hamilton Spencer Hamilton 6'9" | C Parry McCleur | 2022 State VA | 6’10” | Parry McLeur
Hamilton is one of the top prospects in the 2022 class in the 540 as he helped lead Parry McLeur to a state championship last year, and he has a lot of versatility to his game on the offensive end. He’s long and skilled with good hands and touch in the paint, he can step out and shoot it from deep consistently and he alters shots on the defensive end too.
Elliot Black | 6’6” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Black is one of the most under recruited players in the state in my opinion, as I think that too many coaches are looking at the fact that he’s an inch or two shorter than they would like at the position instead of looking at his production against top competition. He’s strong and athletic in the paint and can play well above the rim, he’s a walking double-double who rebounds in traffic well and he has the ability to step out and play facing the basket out to 18 feet.
Jacob Rice Jacob Rice 6'7" | SF Miller School | 2022 State VA | 6’7” | Miller School
Rice is one of the most versatile forwards in the state and had a breakout junior season last year and continued it with a good summer with VA Premier , and he’s received scholarships from a number of division two programs because of it. He’s a good athlete who can play in transition and finish above the rim, he can step out and shoot it from deep and handle on the perimeter and he’s very productive on both ends.
Reis Jones Reis Jones 6'10" | C Flint Hill | 2022 State VA | 6’6” | Flint Hill
Jones is an up and comer who has improved a lot over the past few years and has turned himself into a no nonsense type of big that brings it on both ends in the paint. He’s not the tallest but he’s very long and gets off of his feet well, he is an excellent rim protector with good timing and mobility and he can run the floor and play above the rim as well.
