Players across the state have transferred, which will create a big impact on state title races. Here are the 2022 transfers that are set to shake up the coming season.
Elijah Perkins Elijah Perkins 6'4" | CG Camden | 2022 State NJ , 6’3 PG Camden
Perkins is one of the few players in the state to have played in a Tournament of Champions game, giving the Panthers needed experience in the backcourt. The Ranney transfer is an athletic guard who excels at getting downhill and attacking the basket. Perkins has a quick first step, which he uses to blow by defenders in the half court. He is a good on-ball defender and can defend either backcourt spot. Perkins joins a loaded Camden backcourt as the Panthers look to extend the state’s longest winning streak en route to their first Tournament of Champions crown since 2000.
Omarion Jett-Dobbs Omarion Jett-Dobbs 6'2" | CG St. Benedict's | 2022 State NJ , 6’2 CG St. Benedict’s
The Grey Bees may not compete for the Tournament of Champions, but Jett-Dobbs will still have an impact on their chances to take home the Prep A championship. The Morris Catholic transfer is a rugged defender as he moves his feet exceptionally well and plays with quick hands. Jett-Dobbs attacks the basket with a purpose and can finish through contact. He is an underrated passer and has the ability to play either on or off the ball. Jett-Dobbs will most likely play off the ball at St. Benedict’s, but his toughness, defense and skillset will be a big help to the Grey Bees this season.
Braxton Jones Braxton Jones 6'0" | PG Roselle Catholic | 2022 State NJ , 6’0 PG Roselle Catholic
The Lions always seem to reload in the backcourt and this year is no exception with the addition of Jones. The Trenton Catholic transfer is a marksman from deep as he has a quick release and can get hot from distance in a hurry. Jones is more than just a shooter as he has a nice floater and can handle the ball on the perimeter. He is an underrated passer and works hard on the defensive end. Jones provides Roselle Catholic with more shooting, which will make the Lions even tougher to beat this season.
Darren Tuck Darren Tuck 6'4" | SG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2022 State NJ , 6’4 SG St. Joe’s Metuchen
The Falcons were always seen as one of the top teams in the GMC entering the year and their case got even stronger with the addition of Tuck. The Immaculata transfer attacks the basket with a purpose and can finish layups through contact. Tuck is more than just a slasher as he can knock down jumpers from behind the arc and moves well off the ball. He is a strong rebounder for a guard and has the length to defend more than one position on the floor. Tuck joins a long, athletic backcourt which should make noise throughout the season.
Ryan Zan, 6’7 PF Hun/Rutgers Prep
Zan suited up for Hun during the live period and could be headed to Rutgers Prep this winter, but he will make an impact at whichever school he attends. The Ranney transfer is comfortable playing on the perimeter as he has a nice shooting stroke and range that extends past the three-point line. Zan can handle the ball on the perimeter and moves well without the ball. He attacks the glass and can draw contact on his way to the basket. Zan’s floor-stretching ability is something that will help his team in a big way this upcoming season.
