Here’s a look at part one of some of the many top glue guys in the state.
Christian May Christian May 6'6" | SF Bishop O'Connell | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | Bishop O’Connell
When it comes to recruiting a glue guy for the next level, there aren’t many that fit that mold better than May who has shown he can play in multiple systems and play with other very talented guys and make an impact on both ends of the floor. He’s a big time athlete who can bring energy with his above the rim play and rebounding ability, he can guard the other team’s best player on the perimeter and he’s a good catch-and-shoot guy on kick outs from deep and can attack and hit the midrange with efficiency.
Garrett Brennan Garrett Brennan 6'3" | CG St. Stephens & St. Agnes | 2022 State VA | 6’3” WG | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Brennan has been the glue guy for SSSAS over the past few years, and like many glue guys the team is just always better when he’s on the floor as he’s able to do a little bit of everything at the two guard position. He’s crafty and has great feel when he’s handling the ball and initiating the offense, he can knock it down from deep on the move and can attack and get in the lane and finish through traffic and he’s an all-out hustle kind of player that brings it on both ends and leaves it all on the floor.
James Bell III | 6’7” PF | Collegiate
Bell is the type of big man that is great as a glue guy because he can impact the game in a number of ways even if he doesn’t have the ball in his hands that much during the game. The 6’7” forward is long and bouncy around the rim and is always around the ball to rebound on both ends, he has good touch in the lane and can step out and stretch the defense with his shooting ability and he is a good shot blocker and can switch and stay in front of guards and wings too.
Reggie Robertson Reggie Robertson 5'8" | PG John Marshall | 2022 State VA | 5’8” PG | John Marshall
Robertson plays on a JM team that has been loaded with talent over the last few years, and he’s quietly been a very important piece for them with the toughness he brings on both ends of the floor and his willingness to buy in to whatever role his team needs him to. He’s a good on ball defender that can hound ball handlers the length of the floor, he’s a good shooter off the catch and whenever they play in big games he seems to step out and make plays when his team needs him to the most.
Colin Ryan Colin Ryan 6'1" | PG Collegiate | 2022 State VA | 6’1” PG | Collegiate
Ryan, who recently announced his commitment to Mary Washington, is the type of player you love to have on your team and hate to face as he’s an all-out player on both ends and will frustrate other players with his intensity. He can run the show as he handles the rock and gets his team into sets and puts other players in positions to succeed, he’s skilled as a shooter and playmaker and he brings it on the defensive end guarding the length of the floor and making hustle plays that help his team win.
Michael Cooper Michael Cooper 6'3" | SF Woodbridge | 2022 State VA | 6’3” WF | Woodbridge
Cooper is the type of glue guy that can do a little bit of everything whether it’s being a part of a talented team or being the go-to guy and scoring it when he needs to. He’s a long and athletic wing who plays with a great motor on both ends of the floor, he’s able to score it from deep and in the midrange off the bounce, he’s an athletic finisher and good rebounder and he does a lot of little things that make his team better.
