THE FAVORITE – De Pere or Ashwaubenon
Think you’re splitting hairs between these two teams in the preseason. Both feature really strong 1-2 punches in the backcourt, but lost some key pieces in the frontcourt.
Ashwaubenon went 20-6 last season. The Jaguars are led by Michigan Tech commit Marcus Tomashek Marcus Tomashek 6'3" | SG Ashwaubenon | 2022 State WI (23.4 ppg). Senior guard Matt Imig Matt Imig 6'0" | CG Aswaubenon | 2022 State WI is back as well after averaging better than 14 points per contest.
De Pere is coming off a 22-4 season. Junior guard Johnny Kinziger is the top prospect in the league (22.5) and holds an early offer from Toledo. The Redbirds were one game away from state last season, falling in a heartbreaker to River Falls. Senior guard Jack Jorgensen Jack Jorgensen 6'2" | SG Depere | 2022 State WI (10.8 ppg) is one of the state’s best shooters and could be in store for a big year.
TOP CONTENDER – Bay Port
The Pirates are coming off a 15-7 season in 2020-21. While their leading scorer has departed, Bay Port can reload behind senior forward Nate Forystek Nate Forystek 6'7" | PF Bay Port | 2022 State WI (13.5 ppg). A pair of juniors, A.J. Lieuwen A.J. Lieuwen 6'0" | CG Bay Port | 2023 State WI (13.5 ppg) and Vincent Vandervest Vincent Vandervest 6'4" | SF Bay Port | 2023 State WI (5.5 ppg) are primed for breakout years as well after promising summers on the travel circuit.
DARK HORSE – Notre Dame
Notre Dame was 17-9 last season. There are some big losses to overcome, including three double-figure scorers, but their backcourt of senior Chris Mitchell Chris Mitchell 6'1" | CG Notre Dame | 2022 State WI (12.1 ppg) and junior Emmett Lawton Emmett Lawton 6'2" | SG Notre Dame Academy | 2023 State WI (5.7 ppg) can matchup with the best in the Fox River Classic.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Marcus Tomashek Marcus Tomashek 6'3" | SG Ashwaubenon | 2022 State WI
Tomashek is the league’s top returning scorer at 23.4 ppg. The Michigan Tech commit is a sweet-shooting wing with excellent positional size at 6-foot-4. He came up a sniper, but has rounded out his game offensively to be able to shoot off the bounce and knock down tough, contested jumpers, even if he’s fading from the hoop.
BREAKOUT PLAYER – Emmett Lawton Emmett Lawton 6'2" | SG Notre Dame Academy | 2023 State WI
Lawton is coming off a huge summer and his confidence should be sky-high entering the winter. The 6-foot-2 guard is a knockdown shooter that can have the green light whenever he touches the rock. Lawton averaged less than six points per game as a sophomore. He’s capable of exploding in games and should help Notre Dame overcome some of the big personnel losses they suffered in the off-season.
SURPRISE PLAYER – Vincent Vandervest Vincent Vandervest 6'4" | SF Bay Port | 2023 State WI
A bouncy, athletic slasher, Vandervest flashed consistently throughout the summer. The junior wing averaged 5.5 ppg as a sophomore and just got better and better as July wore on. Not only does Vandervest provide a spark with momentum-changing plays above the rim, but he can live around the hoop and generate high percentage buckets consistently.
