Although there are still some club teams that play into august in small events in-state, we tend to see most players start to work with their high school programs more. There have been some changes across the state and in 6A that makes it hard to call who will be the front runner but there are teams that are going to be contenders.
6A retains it’s four regions and every region has some teams that are dangerous. With the new realignment Region 4 got a boost by adding Mountain Ridge and West Jordan. Region 4 is going to be tough as always from top to bottom, but with the loss of one of the best players in the country at American Fork (Jaxon Kohler) many teams feel like it is going to be wide open now. Region 2 has 4 teams that will not go down quietly as the young talent in the region has now grown up. Region 1 not only returns the State Champion Davis Darts but they also add 5A runner-up Farmington High School who also has the best player in the state in Collin Chandler Collin Chandler 6'5" | CG Farmington | 2022 State #28 Nation UT .
10. Kearns || Region 2 || Cougars || 16-9 ||
Last season Kearns finished on top of Region 2 and this year could go the same way as they have a lot of youth that has been playing major minutes that are now juniors and seniors. Gott Daw Gott Daw 6'5" | CG Kearns | 2022 State UT ended the season on an injury. With his health and players like Iv’Rson Lavizzo Iv’Rson Lavizzo 5'10" | PG Kearns | 2022 State UT returning speed, vision and ability tp create. Then you have a great shooter in Amare Ames Amare Ames 6'1" | CG Kearns | 2022 State UT as well as a great wing in Jonny Gasaloga this team will be tough to deal with.
9. Cyprus || Region 2 || Pirates || 15-9 ||
Cyprus is one of the most dangerous teams in the state and everyone knows that as they will not sneak up on anyone. They are well coached and they play with tempo. They are lead by two excellent player in Quentin Meza Quentin Meza 6'0" | PG Cyprus | 2023 State UT and Justus Jackson-Fobbs Justus Jackson-Fobbs 6'6" | SF Cyprus | 2023 State UT who are both electric in their own way. Quentin is a scoring guard that can play on the ball or off the ball. He can score in a hurry and he makes some difficult shots. Justus is an athlete that is just slashing all over the floor. Then you throw in a knock down shooter in Diego Mulford Diego Mulford 5'10" | PG American Fork | 2024 State UT , that creates a problem. This is a pick your poison type of team.
8. Copper Hills || Region 3 || Grizzlies || 13-6 ||
Copper Hills return 12 players from last years roster. They will be lead by CG McCoy Langston McCoy Langston 6'6" | CG Copper Hills | 2022 State UT who can shoot lights out. McCoy is sometimes used on the ball but he is a must defend type of a player. Then they have much improved in his all-around game Quincy Hills Quincy Hills 6'0" | PG Copper Hills | 2022 State UT who runs the PG position but has been shooting really well this summer. With a lot of role players filling this team could make a deep run.
7. Lone Peak || Region 4 || Knights || 14-9 ||
Ben Demille is a notable name that is back for the Knights that simply have a farm system of players that can score the basketball. They play up and down and they spread the floor. McKay Tanner is another player that has been playing well for Lone Peak this summer.
6. Pleasant Grove || Region 4 || Vikings || 18-7 ||
Pleasant Grove has one of the best guards in the state in Jordan Ross Jordan Ross 6'3" | PG Link Academy | 2023 #132 Nation MO who has a smooth game. The lefty can shoot the ball and find open cutters with his great vision. young F Isaac Garrett Isaac Garrett 6'8" | SF Pleasant Grove | 2023 State UT has really elevated his game this summer as he uses his size and athleticism. A healthy Michael Mitton Michael Mitton 6'3" | CG Pleasant Grove | 2023 State UT will propel PG even higher. The glue is going to be McCaden Adams McCaden Adams 6'3" | CG Pleasant Grove | 2022 State UT who can defend 1-4 and he can also help in small ball situations as he is a threat on the offensive end.
5. Farmington || Region 1 || Phoenix || 19-8 ||
Farmington had a solid team last season as we witnessed the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Collin Chandler Collin Chandler 6'5" | CG Farmington | 2022 State #28 Nation UT s level of play. He is a year older and he is well groomed to play some high level basketball. The question will be how far can Collin carry his team. he does have some guys that will help such as Paul Beattie Paul Beattie 6'9" | PF Farmington | 2024 State UT an incoming sophomore that has shown promise. Farmington has also added an out of state transfer that might add to their needed depth.
4. American Fork || Region 4 || Caveman || 17-7 ||
Although a piece is missing as Jaxon Kohler is now at Southern California Academy AF is still a power. They are another program that has height in the farm system. Yaw Reneer Yaw Reneer 6'5" | CG American Fork | 2022 State UT is a solid two way player that’s scoring output should increase. Evan Young Evan Young 5'11" | PG American Fork | 2022 State UT is one of the quickest PG’s in the state. Then you add Aaron Dunne Aaron Dunne 6'9" | C American Fork | 2023 State UT , Noah Moeaki Noah Moeaki 6'4" | CG American Fork | 2022 State UT and Ashton Wallace Ashton Wallace 6'4" | CG American Fork | 2023 State UT and there is a lot of balance on this new look team. Stay tuned, AF didn’t go anywhere.
3. Corner Canyon || Region 4 || Chargers || 18-8 ||
They young guns are ready to make a push. Many thought that CCHS would take a dip with the loss of so many talented seniors but they look hungry and ready to compete. Max Toombs Max Toombs 6'3" | CG Corner Canyon | 2023 State UT looks seasoned and ready to lead this young group along with sharp shooting Brody Kozlowski Brody Kozlowski 6'8" | SF Corner Canyon | 2024 State #103 Nation UT . Tyler Burraston Tyler Burraston 6'4" | SG Corner Canyon | 2022 State UT is another player that can really shoot the ball and keep an eye on Tyler Neibaur who is really playing at a high level.
2. Bingham || Region 3 || Miners || 17-6 ||
Last season was a rollercoaster of a ride as they hung with every team they lost to last season. Graduating two of their leading scorers will hurt but this team is deep and they are anchored by their defense and players like Devin Carlson Devin Carlson 6'8" | SF Bingham | 2022 State UT and Kam Dupaix Kam Dupaix 6'5" | CG Bingham | 2022 State UT . They will have more play from Luke Leatherwood and they will have a new floor general in Ace Reiser Ace Reiser 6'0" | PG Alta | 2024 State UT . This team is deep and has size.
1.Davis || Region 1 || Darts || 22-4 ||
The returning State Champions will remain on top until further notice. They has shooting like always and they return a lot of contributing players. They will be led by Rex Sunderland Rex Sunderland 6'4" | PG Davis | 2022 State UT who is playing some of his best basketball right now along with Henry Ihrig. This duo is tough to deal with but they have other players that will come in and score in a hurry. Don’t forget about their other ball handler in Colby Simms Colby Simms 5'11" | PG Davis | 2022 State UT . This team will have a great chance to repeat.
