5) Yuri Manns Yuri Manns 6'3" | CG LC Bird | 2023 State VA | 6’3” | LC Bird (#18 Overall)
Manns is poised for a breakout season at LC Bird this year, as he’s shown steady improvement over the past few years and looks like he’s turning the corner as a combo guard who can score it and make others better. He’s long and still growing into his body but he’s looking more fluid every time you see him play, he can get to spots in the midrange off the bounce where he has an excellent floater and pull-up game and he can move off the basketball to make shots from deep as well. He competes on both ends and has a good IQ and understanding of the game, and he’ll continue to get better and better with time.
4) John St. Germain John St. Germain 6'2" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State VA | 6’0” | STAB (#11 Overall)
St. Germain has been one of the top guards in the class and has been an impact player in the VISAA since he was an eighth grader at Miller School and helped them win a state championship, and he continues to show that he’s a true floor general that can run a team as well as anyone. He’s highly skilled and cerebral with the ball in his hands, he’s able to change speeds and change directions well making him tough to corral off the bounce and he is an excellent scorer that can make shots from multiple levels. When he plays with intensity and goes all out on both ends he can be the best player on the floor, and his feel and IQ for the game are second to none.
3) Mason So Mason So 6'1" | PG DeMatha | 2023 State MD | 6’1” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#10 Overall)
So has missed much of the spring and summer dealing with injury but there’s no doubt with his transfer to St. Stephen’s St. Agnes that he will be one of the top guards in the IAC and teaming up with fellow backcourt mate Devin Ceaser Devin Ceaser 6'1" | CG St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2022 State VA means trouble for opposing teams. So is a highly skilled and cerebral guard who can play both spots in the backcourt and is equally as effective as a scorer and a distributor. He’s shift off the bounce and can create space and make shots from all three levels, he uses his body well when he gets downhill and when guarding the basketball and he can get hot quickly and take over games with his shooting ability.
2) Trevor Smith Trevor Smith 5'11" | PG Woodside | 2023 State #267 Nation VA | 5’11” | Woodside (#8 Overall)
Smith is coming off of a big summer with Team Loaded VA 16U where he solidified himself as a top prospect in the state, and he has a very impressive early offer list that includes some very high level schools. While he isn’t the biggest or most explosive guard he’s got good speed end-to-end and a quick first step, he has improved his consistency as a shooter from deep and he ha shown that he can score the ball efficiently whether he’s on or off the basketball. He’s good in pick-and-rolls and can facilitate for others within the flow of the offense, he’s a good on ball defender that moves his feet well and he still has room to improve moving forward.
1) Caleb Foster Caleb Foster 6'4" | PG Notre Dame | 2023 State CA-S | 6’4” | Oak Hill Academy (#1 Overall)
While some of the national rankings vary with where they have Foster, he’s considered by most to be a top 5 guard in the country and some even consider him a top 10 prospect in the country in a very good 2023 class nationally. At 6’4” he has good positional size and he’s able to see over other guards to deliver passes and can pull-up over top of other guards, and he’s an excellent shooter at his position which has become very in demand for point guards. He’s smooth off the bounce and keeps the ball on a string, he sees the game a few plays ahead of everyone else and the game come naturally to him as he can create his own shot or create shots for others, and he was one of the best players in UA this summer playing up on the Team Curry 17U group. He was the rare sophomore starter at Oak Hill last year and for a program that has had 10 point guards come through and end up playing in the NBA, it looks like Foster could be the next one.
