Continue ReadingThe list of elite level prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania (and beyond) who are transferring high schools this off-season continues to grow here in the final days of August. Since our last installment of the Transfer Watch 2021 series, several more exceptionally talented area prospects have announced they will be attending a different school this fall.
Among those highlighted in our tenth review of transfers for 2021 is one of the Philadelphia Public League’s top prospects jumping to an Inter-Ac program and an elite South Jersey prospect joining the already loaded Archbishop Wood roster.
Chad Anglin – 6’8” / Senior / Imhotep Charter / Power Forward: The rich get richer, as Imhotep continues to add talent. Earlier this month Ahmad Nowell, one of the elite backcourt players in the Class of 2024, announced he was transferring to Imhotep. Now Head Coach Andre Noble pulls in some interior depth with this transfer. In 2020-21 Anglin was a solid role player who started seven games for Roman Catholic. With superstars Daniel Skillings Daniel Skillings 6'5" | SG Roman Catholic | 2022 State PA and Khalil Farmer Khalil Farmer PG Roman Catholic | 2022 State PA taking the bulk of Roman’s FGAs, Anglin was asked to provide a physical presence on the interior, clean the defensive glass and block shots. He did all three things very well. However, this summer while playing for BW Elite, Anglin demonstrated that he can also be a major contributor on offense. A very athletic prospect with good speed, Anglin flourished in the fast paced, transition game style of play that is typical of the summer circuit. Anglin demonstrated that he could fill the lanes, play above the rim and finish through contact. In the half court he continued to convert on second chance opportunities, but also showed improved footwork on post ups and displayed the ability to score in the paint with a nice flip hook shot.
Luke Brown – 6’8” / Sophomore / St. Joseph’s Prep / Power Forward: A contributing reserve for Salesianum (DE) last season, Brown will join fellow transfer Tristen Guillouette to provide SJP with much needed size in the front court. Brown has good ball handling skills, so he can attack the basket from the wing and score with either hand. Additionally, he can step outside and shoot the three-ball consistently. Brown has enough physicality to establish position down low and score over smaller defenders. Offensively his skill set projects as a stretch-4 style of prospect. At the other end, Brown is super athletic and has good lateral foot speed so he is versatile enough that he can guard all five positions on the court.
Camden Burns Camden Burns 6'0" | CG SCH Academy | 2024 State PA – 5’11” / Sophomore / SCH Academy / Combo Guard: If you watched Burns play last season at MLK High School (PA) or this summer with NJ Scholars Elite, the one aspect of his game that most likely jumped out at you right away was his mid-range scoring. To be honest, Burns has one of the most unstoppable mid-range pull up games in the area. His ability to dribble-drive with either hand, stop on a dime and then knock down a jumper over a defender is a thing of beauty. This info is in every opponent’s scouting report but having a defender “play off” Burns is not the answer. If you give him room, Burns will kill you from the perimeter because he is an excellent in-rhythm 3-point shooter. In 2020-21 he averaged 17 ppg. for MLK and was a 3rd team All-Philly Public League selection. He recorded 29 points vs. a deep and talented Archbishop Carroll (PA) squad. On the summer circuit Burns plays for NJ Scholars Elite.
Carson Howard Carson Howard 6'7" | PF Archbishop Wood | 2023 State PA – 6’7” / Junior / Archbishop Wood / Power Forward: For the last two high school seasons Howard has played at Lacey HS (NJ) where he simply destroyed the competition in South Jersey. During the 2020-21 season he averaged a double-double (18.7 ppg & 12.7 rpg.) and posted a season best 30 and 16 vs. Egg Harbor Township. After his impressive sophomore season, Howard was named POY for the Atlantic City area. Now this prospect who scores at will in the paint and owns a solid mid-range jumper is bringing his game to the Philadelphia Catholic League. It will be interesting to witness if this super athletic forward with plenty of bounce finds the same high level of success in the ridiculously competitive PCL. On the grassroots circuit Howard plays for Team Final EYBL.
