The state of Virginia always has a high number of prospects to advance to the college level and play college basketball. The focus of this article is to take a look at the top unsigned seniors in the state.
Maliq Brown Maliq Brown 6'8" | PF Blue Ridge | 2022 State #123 Nation VA | 6’8 | Blue Ridge
A bit still underrated in my opinion on a national level, Brown still has a decent amount of suitors that are trying to land him. Brown is an athletic forward with long arms standing at 6’8. Defense is the name of the game for Brown as he uses his length tremendously on that side of the ball as he is a big time defender and one of the best shot blockers in the state. NC State is the latest to offer Brown to go along with St. John’s, Texas A&M and Syracuse. We will know more about where his recruitment is headed once he gets to some schools for visits.
Tyler Nickel Tyler Nickel 6'8" | SF East Rockingham | 2022 State #85 Nation VA | 6’8 | East Rockingham
One of the smoothest scorers in the state, Tyler Nickel Tyler Nickel 6'8" | SF East Rockingham | 2022 State #85 Nation VA is coming off an official visit to Virginia Tech and from talking to different people, the Hokies sit very well with him. Nickel put out a list of a final five including North Carolina, Iowa, Virginia Tech and Butler. It will be interesting to see if any of those other four schools receive a visit from Nickel as the Hokies sit in the driver’s seat for him.
Donald Hand Jr. | 6’5 | Landstown
Son of former Virginia standout Donald Hand, Hand Jr. just recently announced a final list of 7 schools including South Florida, ODU, Boston College, Maryland, NC State, Georgia Tech and Iona. Hand is a big time scorer that can fill it up from all three levels and a guy that should see minutes his first year regardless of where he goes.
Paul Lewis Paul Lewis 6'1" | PG Bishop O'Connell | 2022 State VA | 6’1 | Bishop O’Connell
Lewis is a former Maryland commit but reopened his recruitment this past June. Lewis is more of a low to mid major prospect that has picked up offers from Merrimack, NJIT and UMass Lowell since having his recruitment reopened. There are a few other local schools that are actively recruiting Lewis and it will be interesting to see if more schools pull the trigger on the scoring guard.
Houston Emory Houston Emory 6'10" | C Blue Ridge | 2022 State VA | 6’10 | Blue Ridge
Emory is the second Blue Ridge player to find his name on this list and there is a lot to like about the 6’10 center. What makes him so intriguing is his ability to stretch the floor at his size and make shots from deep. He is becoming stronger by the day which makes him a tougher presence down low. Radford is the most recent school to get involved with Emory but I would expect to hear his name connected to a few more programs as college coaches are set to hit the road starting September 9th.
