Here are a few of the top trios to watch in 3 and 4A:
St. Marys (3A):
Fred Criqui Fred Criqui 6'7" | C St. Marys | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-7 center, 2022 (pictured)
Jaxon Hurla, 5-foot-8 guard, 2022
Keller Hurla Keller Hurla 6'0" | CG St. Marys | 2023 State KS , 5-foot-10 guard, 2023
The Bears tend to be deep and diverse. There is a stable full of quality players in St. Marys to chose from. But these three stand out in summer action and will lead the team this fall. Criqui’s game isn’t always highlighted on the high school floor, but he continues to make a name for himself in club ball. Jaxon Hurla is a fast-moving perimeter player who shoots it well. Keller Hurla Keller Hurla 6'0" | CG St. Marys | 2023 State KS actually stepped up as a team leader as a sophomore, earning third team 3A last year.
Nemaha Central (3A):
Marcus Beck Marcus Beck 6'4" | PF Nemaha Central | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-4 forward, 2022
Kurtis Beck Kurtis Beck 6'4" | PF Nemaha Central | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-4 forward, 2022
Zac Kramer, 5-foot-10 guard, 2022
Only one team put three players on the Big Seven League’s first team. And all three of those happened to be juniors – the Beck twins and Kramer. Kurtis Beck Kurtis Beck 6'4" | PF Nemaha Central | 2022 State KS has received the most accolades thus far, earning honorable mention 3A as a sophomore and junior. But the brothers play off each other and both are capable of doing a lot moving around the lane and running the floor. Kramer has been a steady performer for two years, and provided occasional big scoring games as a junior.
Labette County (4A):
Eli Hestand, 5-foot-11 guard 2022
Alex Meister, 6-foot guard 2022
Chase Carnahan, 5-foot-11 guard 2022
The Grizzlies struggled last season, but they were led by all juniors and sophomores. Three senior guards will have a chance to build on last year. Hestand was the leader, earning honorable mention 4A with 16.3 points and 3.4 rebounds a contest. Meister was right with him, contributing 10 points and 3.5 boards. Carnahan focused on rebounding and defense, providing 4.5 boards and 1.9 steals from his guard spot.
