The highlight of the day were the three exciting championship games in the 17U, 16U and 15U divisions. Here are a few observations from Sunday’s championship action.
17U Final Goes Overtime
There was plenty of athleticism on the floor and plenty of intensity as the St Louis Warriors defeated TruVision 64-58 in a overtime thriller. A tip in by 6’5 2021 Carlos Bell of Tru Vision sent the game into overtime.
A pair of early buckets by the Warriors gave them the breathing room that they needed for the win. They were led by 6’5 2022 wing Braxton Stacker Braxton Stacker 6'5" | SG Cardinal Ritter | 2022 State MO with 20 points. He is a dynamic athlete that mixed in perimeter jumpers an emphatic slam dunks. 6’2 2022 guard Damien Mayo Damien Mayo 6'2" | SG Chaminade | 2022 State MO Jr added 18 points. The athletic Mayo added 18 points. He jest announced that he would play his senior year at Link Year Prep.
TruVision was led by 2021 guard Phillip March Phillip March 5'11" | PG Soldan | 2021 State MO with 14 points and 6’4 2022 Cole Farrell Cole Farrell 6'4" | SG Hazelwood Central | 2021 State MO with 14. March is a tough-minded combo guard with deep shooting range while Farrell is an explosive athlete with improved skill level.
STL Stars edge Ball So Hard in 16U Final
In another spirited championship game, The St Louis Stars defeated Ball So Hard 58-52. 6’2 2023 guard Tyler King scored a game/high 25 points to lead the Warriors. He was the breakout player of the tournament. Cameron Stovall, a 6’5 2023 forward, had 15 points and several terrific blocked shots. He was banging opposing shots off the backboard on a consistent basis.
Ball So Hard was led by 6’1 2033 Barry Thomas Barry Thomas 6'1" | PG St. Charles West | 2023 State MO with 17 points. He has excellent quickness to go along with his slashing ability and 3-point shot. Smooth 6’4 2023 Javaris Moye Javaris Moye 6'4" | SG Kirkwood | 2023 State MO had 11 points while explosive 6’3 2023 Steven Bonner Steven Bonner 6'4" | SF Soldan | 2023 State MO added 10 points
15U Final Goes Down to Final Shot
In the 15U championship game, All Things Retro survived a potential game winner in the closing seconds to post a 39-38 win over the SFC Ballers. Looking good All Things Retro was 6’4 2024 Mekhi Barrington, who scored 16 points. He has a solid body that helps him bang around inside and a nice touch from 3-point range. Caden Casey Caden Casey 6'1" | CG Park Hills Central | 2024 State MO of SFC Ballers is a 6’0 2024 combo guard with electric handles, good slashing skills and a mid range jumper.
