When I caught up with him a few days ago, at the Pineview practice, he was repetitiously drilling his team on the finer points of their 5 out offense. Eves acknowledges that his team skews more on the smaller side, however, that doesn’t stop them from keeping sight of their goals. “We want to get a good spot in the playoff, top 4 or 5”. Comming off a 6 win season a year ago, the Panthers will definitely have their work cut out. However, with several returners, including their leading scorer from a year ago, the Panthers seem up to the task. That is if they can handle that size issue. “We will reach our goals if we can do a better job of rebounding the ball,” says Eves
HC: Ryan Eves 6th Season
Division: 4A
2020-2021 Record: 6-16
Key Returners:
Bensen Sheperd 6’1 SG 2022 (featured image) – Sheppard returns along with his team-leading 12ppg average. He’ll be counted on to score, lead and distribute. The self-described hard worker, seemed confident in his interview while anticipating a big year for his team. “I expect this team to play well”. says Sheperd.
Kameron Larsen Kameron Larsen 6'0" | PG Pine View | 2022 State UT 5’11 CG 2022 – Larsen shot the ball well in the scrimmage. His shooting ability should open up driving lanes in Eves’s 5 out offense. He’s really looking forward to the season, describing his teammates as “Super tight” this year. In addition to his shooting, Larsen relishes his role on the defensive end.
Ruston Shaw 6’0 SG 2022 – Shaw embodies the Panther program, the scrappy shooting guard has played with many of these guys since middle school. A dangerous outside shooter, Shaw buried over 45% of his 3’s last year. Like several of the Panthers players, he mentioned team comradery as one of the key factors to success. A High Academic player with a 4.0 GPA, Shaw recognizes the intangibles, “We’re much closer as a team this year” says Shaw.
Key Newcomers:
Turner Williams Turner Williams 5'9" | PG Beaver | 2022 State UT 5’10 CG 2022 – Williams is a transfer from Beaver. He brings multiple years of Varsity experience and should provide backcourt depth.
Dayson Moore 6’6 C 2022 – A massive post, listed at 6’6 320, Moore is a two-sport athlete that plays the Tackle position for the football team. He returns after missing all of last season, His size will provide frontcourt depth to the squad.
Sleeper
Nash Schroeder 6’0 PG 2024 – Schroeder contributed as a freshman, and should see increased minutes in his sophomore season. He also expects to see an increase in the win category. “We are going to win a lot more games,” says Schroeder. The PG displayed playmaking ability and counts creating shots for others as his role on the team.
Top Prospect:
Griffen Sheperd Griffen Sheperd 6'2" | CG Pine View | 2024 State UT 6’0 SG 2024 – Sheppard is a candidate for my All – High Motor team. I saw him a little in the summer, and it took minutes for the hard-driving wing to remind me of who he is. He was at it again in the scrimmage, aggressively attacking the rim with downhill drives. He’s more of a scorer than a shooter but showed the ability to knock down 3’s in catch-and-shoot action.
