Many players were poised to use the season to make a name for themselves. As it stands, because so many players were denied an opportunity last year, it’s provided more opportunities for players to put together breakout seasons this year. Some players would have undoubtedly made a splash last year, while others would probably have had to wait until this season for their breakout moments anyway. For players in the class of 2024, this season is going to be their first taste of H.S basketball action. In this article, we take a look at some under-the-radar class of 2024 players set to have impacts during their first season.
Jeramiah Toby Jeramiah Toby 5'11" | CG Meadows | 2024 State NV 5’11 PG Meadows (#42) – I envision Toby as a tempo-changing guard for the Mustangs. They are loaded in the backcourt, however, his speed and quickness could be put to good use. On ball, he can hawk opposing ballhandlers, and offensively his ability to play in transition compliments the 1,2 punch of Ryan Hannig Ryan Hannig 5'10" | CG Lincoln Co | 2023 State NV and Jake Bevacqua Jake Bevacqua 5'10" | PG The Meadows School | 2023 State NV well.
Xaviel Rodriguez Xaviel Rodriguez 6'6" | SG Trinity | 2024 State NV 6’6 SG Coronado (#16) – I haven’t seen Rodriguez in a while, so I’m going out on a limb, however he has a few things working in his favor. His size: At 6’6 he should be one of the tallest perimeter players in the state. His skill: His ability to shoot the ball is nice, and it makes him a threat to put up points in a hurry. His competition: Rodriguez has spent a good deal of time playing for the Puerto Rico National Team, honing his skills against bigger stronger players.
Jamison McCall Jamison McCall 6'0" | CG Spring Valley | 2024 State NV 5’11 CG Spring Valley (#14) (featured image) – Saw “Jamo” in a workout yesterday, and was reminded of two things. How dedicated he is to his craft, and how well he shoots the ball. Spring Valley is the team I’m most excited to see play this season, and players like McCall are a good reason why. In addition to his shooting ability, he’s developed a nice slashing game, allowing him to use quick burst to get to the basket.
Immanuel Reed Immanuel Reed 5'7" | PG Sierra Vista | 2024 State NV 5’7 PG Sierra Vista (#31) – “Manny” Reed is an intriguing player, with the chance to be productive for SV this year. The high Academic PG is a good on-ball defender, that can get to the basket. Perhaps his best trait is his leadership, as he plays the game with the poise and confidence of a veteran, a trait that has a positive effect on teammates.
Jake Soleman Jake Soleman 6'6" | PF Hug | 2024 State NV 6’4 PF Sage Ridge – I saw Soleman at Bigfoot Hoops and have not been able to get the lefty forward’s game out of my head. It’s his rebounding that makes him different. Soleman is a gritty Windex guy, that has a chance to be one of the leading rebounders in the small school division.
Noah Tomlin Noah Tomlin 6'8" | C Slam | 2024 State NV 6’5 C SLAM #40 – I’ve only seen Tomlin play in a handful of games, yet I’m intrigued nonetheless. His size is obvious, and his skillset is improving. At this stage of his development, if he can provide the Bulls with some rebounding and rim protection, then they will be carrying high expectations for the season.
Tony Williams Tony Williams 5'11" | CG Mojave | 2024 State NV 5’11 CG Mojave (#33) – Mojave is going to play a ton of young players, so I see no reason why Williams can’t be a factor. The combo guard is a sharpshooter, who should provide additional scoring and floor spacing for an athletic Mojave squad.
