Alijah Matthews (5’10 2022 PG, Gallo Sports Center)- Playing for a loaded Racine St. Catherine’s team last winter, Alijah barely saw the floor during his junior season. This will likely change next year as he was a major contributor for Gallo Sports Center this spring/summer. Despite his smaller size he has some explosiveness that allows him to pull in a handful of rebounds, and that scrappiness and toughness translates to his on-ball defense as he constantly is sitting deep in a stance to move his feet. Offensively he has a nice feel for the game and gets to just about anywhere he wants to off the dribble, and is a tough finisher over size at the rim. What makes him so dangerous is his change of pace, allowing him to accelerate coming off a screen, or slow down to get his defender on his hip before extending to finish inside.
Termarion Brumby Termarion Brumby 6'1" | CG Racine Case | 2024 State WI (6’1 2024 CG, Wisconsin Rise)- A consistent presence at the 15u level, Termarion brings a ton of toughness to the floor for Wisconsin Rise. He’s a competitive player who loves a challenge defensively, and is willing to fight through screens and consistently put himself into good positions off-ball to make plays. Termarion can turn defense into instant offense, as he has a quick burst to jump passing lanes and go coast to coast to finish at the rim. Offensively he’s dangerous as a straight-line driver as his strength at this age allows him to keep defenders on his hip and absorb contact as he goes up to finish. Brumby adds in a mid-range game that can make defenders pay for sagging off and trying to prevent him from getting to the rim.
Ashe Oglesby Ashe Oglesby 6'6" | PF The Prairie School | 2023 State WI (6’6 2023 F, Wisconsin PGC UAA)- One of the more versatile prospects in the 2023 class, Ashe got consistent minutes for Wisconsin PGC this summer. At 6’6 he has a blend of size and mobility that allowed him defend the 3 or the 4, and the versatile skill-set allows him to do the same on the offensive end. Ashe can put the ball on the floor and handle it to get to the basket or create space to pull-up off the dribble from multiple spots. His smooth jumper makes him a threat from beyond the arc, and he also gets nice elevation to score over length in the mid-range. Oglesby also flashed some footwork in the post and has the touch to finish around the rim with either hand. In the one summer league game I watched, Ashe played a lot of point forward for The Prairie School.
Darrien Long Darrien Long 6'5" | PF Racine Horlick | 2022 State WI (6’4 2022 F, Gallo Sports Center)- I don’t think I saw another player dunk the ball even close to the amount that Darrien did this summer, as his explosiveness is arguably the most impressive in the state. He’s so dangerous cutting along the baseline without the ball because all he doesn’t even need to take a full step after receiving a pass to elevate and finish above the rim with authority. When he’s working hard without the ball he puts up consistent and efficient scoring numbers, and also provides an offensive rebounding threat who can secure the ball himself or tip it back out to a guard on the perimeter to keep a possession alive. Defensively he can guard bigger than his size, and is one of the best shot blockers you’ll find below 6’6. Not a great shooter but showed he can hurt teams from beyond the arc when they give him too much space.
Asanjai Hunter Asanjai Hunter 5'10" | PG The Prairie School | 2022 State WI (5’11 2022 PG, Wisconsin PGC PH)- Playing with a talented group of players, Asanjai still managed to stand out for the Wisconsin PGC Prep Hoops Circuit team. He’s one of the quicker 2022 guards you’ll find, but does a great job of staying under control even when going full speed. Asanjai is dangerous attacking the basket as he keeps his dribble low to burst through gaps and then finish acrobatically with either hand. The improvements he’s made with his outside shot have not only led to more threes made than years past, but it forces defenders to guard him tighter allowing him to use his quick first step to get by them. Not only can he score the ball but he’s also a hard working defender and can run an offense as an unselfish player.
Willie Williams Jr. (6’ 2024 PG, Wisconsin Rise)- A creative point guard with some flair to his game, Willie was dangerous creating off the dribble all summer long. He has a killer crossover that he uses to shift his man before attacking the basket, and you can always see his eyes scanning the floor as he gets into the lane allowing him to dish off a quick pass to the open man when help slides over. Help doesn’t get there soon enough? Willie is one of the best finishers you’ll find in the 2024 class. He’s so acrobatic in the air and able to contort his body in multiple ways while putting the right amount of spin on the ball to finish in difficult situations.
Terryon Brumby Terryon Brumby 6'0" | PG Racine Case | 2022 State WI (6’ 2024 CG, Gallo Sports Center)- If it weren’t for Racine Case only playing about a month of the high school season, Terryon have been entering his senior year with 1,000 career points. He’s such a consistent performer who brings it on both ends of the floor. Terryon is a wrecking ball when attacking the basket, leaving defenders bouncing off of him as he absorbs contact with ease and goes up balanced to finish with either hand. His three point shooting has also been showing improvements over the past year, as he knocked down 26 3’s in 13 games last winter after hitting 27 in nearly double the amount of games as a sophomore. With his Racine Case team in summer league he played with a lot of confidence and composure, scoring with efficiency while also running the offense and keeping his teammates involved.
Six More Prospects
Amari Jedkins Amari Jedkins 6'7" | PF Racine Case | 2022 State WI (6’8 2022 F, Phenom U EYBL)- Saw minutes off the bench for Phenom U in the EYBL and made some big plays on both ends for Racine Case in summer league play. High potential defender with length and explosive athleticism.
Zamarion Dyess (5’10 2022 PG, Racine Horlick)- Was the lead ball handler for Racine Horlick during summer league play. Does a nice job jumping passing lanes and finishing in transition.
Tyson Skalecki Tyson Skalecki 6'5" | SF Union Grove H.S. | 2022 WI (6’6 2022 F, Wisconsin RAP)- Only got to see him once this AAU season, but Tyson is a dangerous shooter from beyond the arc. Improved athlete over the past year who rebounds hard and moves without the ball.
Adrian Bryant (6’ 2022 CG, Racine Case)- Crafty attacker who can get to the rim and finish at will. Hard working defender who’s a major threat in transition.
Evan Moherek (5’11 2023 SG, Gallo Sports Center)- Played up a year at the 17u level and was a major shooting threat from deep. Showed some craftiness creating his own shot off the dribble.
Jadin Dombrowski (6’1 2022 W, D.F. Elite)- Sharpshooter with deep range and loads of confidence in his shot. Should be a key piece for Racine Horlick as a senior.
