Prospect Spotlight: Sincere Barfield (2024)
A budding prospect in the local 2024 class put his stamp on the EBA Summer League earlier this week. 2024 Parkville/Team BBC point guard Sincere Barfield Sincere Barfield 5'11" | PG Patterson | 2024 State MD helped lead his team to the league title and did so behind an impressive 24 points, five rebounds and five assists.
“Our team didn’t get any practice time in obviously and we have some new guys to this team compared to what we were supposed to have last season until COVID canceled our season,” Barfield told Prep Hoops. “We still had each other’s backs. We were good at playing team ball. We had some bad games back-to-back during this summer league, but we bounced back and summer league all around has been a great chance for all of us to actually get some runs in and show what we got coming into this season and build our chemistry.”
There’s no doubt that the 5-foot-10 guard would’ve caught eyes had Baltimore County Public Schools had a season this past winter. He has a well-developed body, and explosive first step and the athleticism that allows him to finish above the rim in transition. Most importantly though, he’s a competitor on both ends and can impact the game in a multitude of ways.
“I’ve gotten better at controlling my pace,” Barfield said when asked to reflect on what he’s improved on over the spring and summer. “When I got to Team BBC everything was different because I was new to the team. I had to adapt to the system. Adaptation is another area that I got better in. I also feel like I definitely got better with my focus and just mental toughness overall. This championship game that I just played in was tough and there were ups and downs but I just tried not to let it affect me too much. Also being more of a point guard. I have a lot more to work on, but that’s all I can come up with for now.”
Before Barfield enrolled at Parkville as a freshman, the Knights were fresh off an impressive run in the Class 4A state tournament. Before COVID impacted the country, they were on their way to College Park to play in the Final Four. That success set a standard going forward that Barfield wants to live up to.
“The expectation is to go all the way, but we have to come together and really form a brotherhood. We all have to mentally lock in and be focused on getting each other better as a team every day.”
Because of the absent high school season, Barfield missed out on some opportunities to generate some college buzz. Following his productive spring and summer with Team BBC plus a great showing in the EBA Summer League, Barfield has now generated some interest from George Washington and Towson. A player with Barfield’s work ethic and mentality lead me to believe that he will be cut out for the low-to-mid Division I level as he develops through high school. The local programs should get established early and make time out this winter to see him live in action.
