PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine Evaluations: Part XIV
The annual @PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine featured nearly 50 aspiring college prospects. For the rest of July we will be featuring the campers with evaluations and measurements from the day.
J.J. Faulkner | 5’11” PG | Karns
How did he measure against the competition?
- Class of 2023
- 5’11″
- Standing Reach — 7’6″
- Wing Span – 5’10”
- Height w/ shoes — 5’11″
- Hand Span — 9.5″
- Hand Length — 7.0″
- Lane Agility — 11.76
- State Ranking – #38
NBA Stylistic Comparison: 2012 Pacers D.J. Augustin
J.J. Faulkner did not inject the camp with his traditional scoring deluge. Frankly, Faulkner is better than his day. He is a featured scorer for the Tennessee Bulls program and Karns High relies upon him for buckets. For whatever reason, Faulkner was not as deadly from the field on our June Sunday.
Needed to get lower on defense. Though Faulkner proved he is fast he did not regularly show it in the open floor. As attack-minded and aggressive as Faulkner is with the ball in his hands, he too often casually strode out in transition without it. For Faulkner to establish his full scoring prowess he must move much more off the ball. He showed all the physical tools to be both a point guard or scoring guard.
The hand size of Faulkner was impressive and similar to players standing 6-foot-5+. Perhaps Faulkner’s hand size and skill account for him rarely coughing up the basketball. The ability to create or hunt for plays requires an ability to stop-and-go with comfort all while maintaining the dribble, and Faulkner absolutely showed off this capacity.
Cade Capps Cade Capps 6'5" | SG Stone Memorial | 2025 State #210 Nation TN | SG | Stone Memorial
- Camp Ranking — ??
NBA Stylistic Comparison: 1992 Pacers Reggie Miller
College Projection: LM/LM+
Capps joined the camp after lunch, so all of the measurements and morning drills escaped him. If he was available for the morning, then the skilled freshman-to-be likely would have landed on the All-Star team. Only a single 2025 prospect made the All-Star Game ( Rodney Henderson Rodney Henderson 6'1" | PG Tyner Academy | 2025 State TN ), but Cade looked like a fit during his afternoon showing.
Capps is a very solid shooter, an exceptional shooter at his age. The height is exciting. Capps projects as a college “2”. Unlike most young players that focus on either shooting or dribbling, Capps is adept at both. While his handle will not decimate a large Tennessee high school defense just yet, it will work on HS players his height.
Cade Capps Cade Capps 6'5" | SG Stone Memorial | 2025 State #210 Nation TN ’ older sister is a freshman hooper for Gardner-Webb after setting the All-Time scoring record for Stone Memorial High.
Areas for improvement: rebounding, finishing after contact, moving without the basketball, communicating more on the defensive end.
