PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine Evaluations Part VIII
In this article:
The annual @PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine featured nearly 50 aspiring college prospects. For the rest of July we will be featuring the campers with evaluations and measurements from the day.
Look for the next combine in September of 2021, this time in middle Tennessee!
Caleb Asbaty | 6’3” PG | Knoxville Catholic

Thin guard Caleb Asbaty demonstrated wonderful straight-line speed during the combine. Competing in the 3/4 Court Sprint, Caleb recorded a 3.40 time, a time tied for 11th among 48 campers.
Asbaty’s hands measured the seventh biggest on the day. Does this mean he is still growing? Maybe. Already, Caleb stands 6-foot-3 in shoes and looks the part of a wing guard.
What does Caleb do especially well?
With some grace, Caleb Asbaty completed the traditional ball-handling drills. He moved around static objects as part of drills. The movements were a little stiff but efficient. Caleb could certainly improve as a dribbler.
Asbaty showed he could shoot when given a dime. The form is reliable and repeatable.
He elevated off the ground modestly completely layups and showed an ability to finish with either hand around the rim. The strides of this sophomore guard were large and profound. This will help out in the open floor. Can he get the same effectiveness with little chop-chops in traffic?
Basketball is a bruising game. To compete at the high level Knoxville Catholic is known for, Caleb needs to live in the weight room this calendar year. His skills, though pronounced, will be diminished if he can’t overcome the pounding both in the paint and whilst guard the perimeter.
His entire game needs to improve, as with any sophomore in Tennessee, to achieve the college basketball dream. Primarily, Caleb needs to improve his upper body strength and incorporate more shifty dribble moves. His handle is not poor, but it lacks dynamism. To become a well-rounded guard, Asbaty should develop the dribbling with both hands.
Gabe Leeper Gabe Leeper 6'1" | PG Cleveland | 2023 State TN | 6’1” PG | Cleveland

Gabe Leeper Gabe Leeper 6'1" | PG Cleveland | 2023 State TN will be a junior for Cleveland High School, a program with tremendous guard depth. Where does he fit in this season? Leeper’s scoring and shooting contribute to every team he joins, but what makes him a actual threat is his ability to impact the game without the basketball in his hands. Leeper defends with fervor. His movement off the ball is helpful. The effort never wanes with Leeper.
Press break was not a problem during the combine. The ’23 guard can wind around pressure or split the defense if need be. He could add more muscle in order to endure the clattering in the lane.
