Only two other guards ( Jasen Brooks Jasen Brooks 6'1" | PG Cleveland | 2023 State TN , Jarius Cameron Jarius Cameron 5'10" | PG CSAS | 2023 State TN ) stepped into the gym more solid and powerful than Nick. The junior guard used his upper body strength effectively, though he could “lean” on this advantage even harder.
Defenders at the high school level typically lack his strength and he would do well to catch the man on his hip and keep him at bay with calculated movements. Chris Paul and James Harden and lately Trae Young are experts at this maneuver.
Smith’s sprint speed was just ok and his Lane Agility needs to improve as the next level will require even the most powerful guards to dance those feet around the deck. Smith was a strong leaper in need a little more desperation in his rebounding game.
A complete guard capable of playing either position, and defending either position, Nick Smith Nick Smith 6'2" | SG Tyner Academy | 2023 State TN just barely missed the All-Star Game (Top 20) ranking #22 on the day. With a strong performance June 27th and a solid reputation within his high school program, Nick Smith Nick Smith 6'2" | SG Tyner Academy | 2023 State TN just debuted in the PrepHoopsTN Top 100!
Ty Runyan Ty Runyan 5'11" | PG McMinn County | 2022 State TN | 6’3” PG | McMinn County

McMinn County shipped four players to the Summer Combine and Ty was the most polished of the group. His handle and composure with the basketball set him apart from the McMinn men and established him as the 3rd best point guard in the building, behind Jasen Brooks Jasen Brooks 6'1" | PG Cleveland | 2023 State TN and John Allen John Allen 6'1" | PG Van Buren County | 2022 State TN . All three are destined to play college basketball in the coming years.
Runyan’s weaknesses are few. His speed was just ok for a college-level guard. He did hit plenty of shots, but like every guard he could improve his ability to create shots off-the-dribble and in the mid-range. When he had space and time, Runyan often made the shots. His agility in the Lane Agility ranked in the top half.
Ty Runyan Ty Runyan 5'11" | PG McMinn County | 2022 State TN was the 10th best player in the building during that June Sunday.
Runyan consistently got into dangerous areas. His composure enabled him to further erode the defense’s integrity with smart, simple passes or the ridiculously smooth layups in traffic. He made a lot of astute calculations in typically tough moments and stuffy spots on the floor.
